Last year i put some guage overlays and decided to not center the guages, well turned the key, smoked the IVR blah blah blah...... I barely replaced it Monday, guage worked, put cluster back in and doesnt work again. I have a new tank/sender waiting to be sumped etc., but did fry more then the IVR????? I tested the sender for the correct ohms and it changed when gas was added and when grounded didnt move the guage. SO what else should i look for besides tearing apart the cluster and making sure the "hot" side of the guages arent grounding out????

little more info, the guage reads about 1/4 full at 34.1 ohms, when i screw the cluster back in it drops to empty.I there anything that "insulates" the plastic housing from grounding the whole cluster???Is it grounding itself out????What gives the ground for the bulbs?

Anybody????????

the reason your bulbs work is because when you screw your gauges into your dash they become grounded somehow.

The gas gauge gets it's ground from the sender.

As does the oil and temp:

The other side of the gauge gets it voltage from the CVR

Sounds like a broken wire inside the connector, I have seen a few that have done that they will work with the cluster down and when you reinstall it the wire bends and opens up. I had the same problem with that type of plug on my 73 stang at the coil it took me a while to find.
