Progress Thread 66 Coupe Build

Got the explorer, the guy wanted to keep the tires as they were newer so we swapped some donuts on.

Runs great!

So I pretty much have the explorer engine ready to pull atleast from what i can tell. Just cant get it to separate from the trans/bell housing.

Removed upper and lower intake to access upper BH bolts
Removed headers to access engine mount bolts and side bolts for BH
Removed starter and lower BH bolts
Removed nuts from the flexplate (4 i think)

Did you push the torque converter back towards the trans to unseat it from the crank?
you also have to support the trans so the engine can slip forward off the dowel pins.

I will give these a try as I did not. Ready to get this thing out and to the machine shop, was hoping to be able to get it on the road this summer but that is going quickly.

It has been awhile since posting on here let alone working on the coupe. I got married, started a family, and remodeled our house so the coupe has been neglected to say the least.

But now that I am able to spend more time on it I am back at it.

Current status/changes:

- Scraping the foxbody EFI route and going Carb or TBI (holley, Fitech, etc)
- Almost have the motor completed, need to get the short block from the shop and finish up the rest.

Motor
- 302 block bored .30 over
- Forged Pistons
- SIR Rods
- TF Stage 1 cam
- All new bearings and plugs
- SVE 170 Alum heads
- New water pump
- New oil pump and pickup
- New oil pan
- ARP bolts for cam, mains, rods
- new waterpump/cover bolt kit
Looking/need for:
- 1.6 rockers (think the die-cast comp cams, or a used set of Scorpians that are local)
- intake mani and carb/TBI
- Valve covers
- Pushrods - After checking clearance
- Distributor
- 3G alternator conversion
- electric rad fan

Anything else?

I will be selling my EFI harness, ECU, TB, etc that I aquired over the years

Brakes
Just need to run my tubes and connect them to the booster

Clutch
Just finishing up the firewall mount for the MDL hyrdo clutch, ended up making a little block since it was tight on my FW.

Dropped the block, crank, pistons, rods, bearings, flywheel, and H-balancers at the machine shop yesterday. Hoping to get it back in early 2025 so I can finish the long block assembly and get the car preped for spring!

Got a call from the machine shop, one of the cylinders they could not clean up and would need a sleeve. Dropped off my 3rd and last 302 block yesterday to have that one checked. Hoping this one works out otherwise I will just sleeve the other block. I could start over years ago I would just spend my time on facebook looking for a decent rebuilt motor, now that I have FB I see some good deals often on 302s.
