66 steering box

Hey everyone. So after taking our 66 coupe on her first hiway trip tje front end seems very "floaty" . He entire front suspension was completely rebuilt last winter and it went in to a full wheel alignment and was put into spec. The only thing I didn't address as the steering box. There is play in the wheel for sure. I have never adjusted one. I have read the shop manual about performing this and it seems to be pretty straightforward. Until I read some other people experiences!!! Yikes!!!!! Seems extremely dangerous if you don't do it perfectly. Any tips on this or should I be better off taking it in

manual or power steering?? Also don't know where you live, but around here we have a ton of alignment shops that have very nice computerized alignment equipment and IDIOTS running them. So after you deal with your steering play, you need to find someone that can both check your front end and knows how to align it.

Manual steer. Had alignment done at a reputable shop here in Edmonton. The fella that did it owns 3 ponys and comes highly recommended from a few of the localclubs here in town. He had said that he had adjusted the box as well. I do trust his work. Just something is definitely out. Going to call them today. There is play in the wheel for sure. Just wanted to see if this is a common problem. Probably going to replace the box. Yikes is that expensive. But the rest of the front end is fresh so guess it's time to tackle that.

Not sure you have your finger on the problem. If your alignment was correct, and you had no other loose parts in the front end, it wouldn't feel boaty, and it wouldn't wander on it's own, the only issue would be the free-play. If you really trust the shop you took it to, let him look at it again, and drive it to see what he thinks, he may have missed something.
