Has anyone purchased one? Pics? How is the fit? I am looking very seriously at theirs but want opinion first. I like that it has the integrated head light buckets. It is either this or the dreaded Elenor version....
 
which one are you speaking of? i posted a pic in the classic talk forums under classics pics to save or somthing. check it out pic name is 12secpass. if you can't find it i will repost it for you...let me know

There is only one from Cobra Automotive with integrated headlight buckets. It may be too new for anyone to have put it on yet.

Yeah, after looking at all the others out there, this one seems to be the coolest one for the price. Not going with the E version! I am going to order the cobra auto. unit next week. I will post picks when it is put on. I am already fabricating a two piece bumper that will go behind the apron for front end protection, and support; kind of like today's cars with plastic fronts.

Not quite sure yet. I just did a once through at the Pick and Pull today to see the internals of some of the late model cars. I may be able to adapt a Late model Taurus or... I will know once I see the fiberglass.
 
remember that monster garage with the bug boat?? they had that liquid that they poured in to the "floats" that turned to a foam when it cured... wonder if that stuff would work.

I did not see that one. I talked to a guy that does injection molds and another guy that makes styrofoam packing shapes. Both told me that I am crazy. :rlaugh: There has to be some creative product devel. company that would love to try out their "new technology" on a project like mine. The search continues. I will look into that liquid foam stuff. If has some rigidity to it then that just might do the trick. Shoot I guess I could even use that foam in a can for filling cracks in your house? :nonono:
 
well http://www.mcmaster.com/ has a lot of different materials listed... i was checking out their foams and looking at all the properties, density, resistance to compression, chemicals, weather etc... and looks like polyurethane foam might be the best bet, but the biggest they sell it is 8" cubes... but i guess we could pack like 3 on each side then just trim them to fit or something??? of course i saw a car with a wooden 4x4 on it today for a bumper... yea thats a great idea :nonono:
 
For you guys thinking about the bumper, I hate to say it but I dont think the liquid foam material would work. When you pick a material, keep in mind that bumpers work by increasing the distance of deacceleration. By the foam used in bumpers "absorbing" some of the impact, they increase the distance over which an object de-accelerates. So you want to find a material that will compress, but not blow apart, the way I believe liquid or expanding foam would. My suggestion would be high density foam mounted in front of a collapsible aluminum structure. Please dont take this the wrong way, I think that idea is great, and honestly, it sounds like something that could be pretty marketable, offering front end protection to classic Mustangs with glass valences. Good luck with it, I hope you never have to use it. Also, I must say that front panel looks beautiful, I'm sure it would be a great addition to my front end project, thanks to whoever posted that link.

I am right there with ya man. I am going to use a two piece inner bumper made from T beam steel and mounted to the frame rails. I want to use a hardend foam to fill the space between the inner bumpers and the valance. The foam should act as a solid compound support for the glass but have a little give for the parking lot idiots that can't seem to stop bumping my chrome :bang: (side bar vent) I park all the way out at the end of the parking lot and some joker will alway park right next to me. Probably the same weirdo that takes a piss right next to you when there are 10 other spots open next to him. :nonono:

With no bumper I am scared to see what it will look like. I have the two inner bumper pieces made and will final fit before welding when I get the glass. Just two more weeks and it is mine :banana:
 
The apron is on it's way. Tracking says this Friday. I had to delay everything as my season has jumped up quicker than I anticipated. Warm weather does that for landscapers. I have been looking into the foam component for the internal T-beams I am making. I found a source for an injectable, "hard" expanding foam. From the description, it is very similar to the stuff you use to fill cracks in your home, to stop the elements from blowing in. I just got the original tooling fenders fitted and I am ready to bolt on the apron as soon as I get it. I will post a pick as soon as I get it on.

Just got to the car on Friday. My company is going crazy with work. Good for me, bad for the project. I got all the parts off that would need to come off, per the instructions, and wow, if anyone backs into the apron, even a slight nudge, it will be in pieces. I am working off of the original bumper mounts as a template to make my braces. I am going to fab up something on the very front as well (under the A frame). I should have some pictures soon. I am still looking into the foam thing, but it looks like I will just use the insulation stuff, coat the inside of the apron with plastic sheeting and spray a boat load of it around my new braces and into the apron form. Kind like an injection mold with the apron as the mold. That way I can get the apron off as I need to, and have a little piece of mind that a small impact won't send me into a fit, with massive glass to repair.

Anyone else have any ideas???? I will take some preliminary pics tomorrow. For now, it's off to blow up as much stuff as I can without burning down the neighborhood, (or getting arrested). Happy 4th all.
 
The fit is right on. I am putting new fenders on at the same time... So now I have backed up to the doors to get those done first. Almost there. It is nearly impossible to do it yourself. No pics yet. I had to fab up a radiator support that will work with the new radiator and the drivers side battery box inset that I already fabbed up and installed. I have to get it final formed then painted before any pics get posted. Don't want to get killed on my craftmanship right now.

On the internal bumper setup. I am nearly finished. I have one final cross beam to weld together (the piece that will run the length of the apron). I am hoping to finish up this week! At that point I can get it into primer and start smoothing for final paint in August.
