67 coupe

For sale down the road from my house. Gave it a quick once-over in the dark, haven't talked to the person yet. The hood and driver's door don't line up right so I'm guessing it's been wrecked and put back together. No *outward* signs of rust, but there's some bondo in the rear right corner ... looks like collision repair rather than rust though since it wasn't right there behind the tire. Other than that, the exterior looks really clean and straight. Original wheel covers, but one was missing its center and it was a 4 lug; that means 6 cyl to the best of my knowledge, correct? Saw a stick shift so probably a 3 speed? I don't know what trannies they put behind the 6s.

Guy's asking $5,000 for it.

Hmmm ... would be a good canvas for a restomod ...

Maybe the fender is a repo and just doesn't line up good or no evert was made to do so. Doesn't necessarily mean its been wrecked. Rust can be anywhere and thats probably what it is. When you talk to the owner , look in the trunk at the 1/4's and you'll see if there is rust there or not.
Yes, 4 lug means its a 6 cylinder probably with drum brakes all around.
As far as tranny, I think it will be the 3 speed as you mentioned.

5k seems kind of steep for a 6 cyl stick coupe. unless the interior is spotless, and the exterior trim is perfect, i would say more like $3,000.but then, i dont know where "down the road" is, and the car might be a nice, rust free, arizona ride. around here, (rust belt) you can bet anything you find, short of a true garage queen, needs floors, cowl work, and at least quarter patches.

sorry, just reread your post... ct probibly gets as much snow, and salt as ohio. check the bottoms of the quarters, from inside the trunk, the trunk floor in front of the bumper mounts, and the floor, right under your feet if you were sitting in the car. if the carpet is wet in the front floorboard, you are looking at a pretty costly repair, and there is no real "cheap" way to properly repair a rotted cowl.

I haven't decided if iwant it enough to waste the guy's time. It'd definitely get an engine/tranny swap and suspension/rearend down the road as well. So I don't care so much that it's a 6 cyl.

I could not tell from the outside if the 1/4s had bondo or patch panels in them. If I decide to talk to the guy, I'll check all those places you guys mentioned.

Kris thinks it was in a wreck because the door didn't fit well. it was very tight to the front fender and had a big gap behind it. Also, the hood didn't fit. I think it may just be a 40 year old car with doors that have been opened and closed a million times, but he could be right too.

$3000 is about what I had thought it would be worth. Looking inside (dusty windows, night) the interior looked clean but not special.

who knows ... maybe I will see if he'd be interested but I doubt he'd come down in price enough to make it worthwhile.
