67 shelby hood scoop openings

I have a 67 shelby hood on my restomod EFI conversion car. I was wondering about the scoop openings. My question is, should I cut them out or not.

I know on the carb cars it might help the air intake, but not on mine. The next is how it would look w/o cutting them out. It might look a bit strange. Also, what about the small rib inbetween the openings... is that prone to cracking when it is cut out.

Lastly, how much of the opening should be cut out. I would assume flush with the hood surface and flush with the opening on the top. That would give you one layer thickness on the top of the opening.

Does anyone have any pics of what they have done in the past and any problems I might encounter.

Also forgot to mention; I've read somewhere (probably on this forum) that carb engines will most likely not see any benefit from the hood scoops such as this style. Reason being is the negative pressure created by airflow from underneath the car... and that air may actually get pushed out of the scoops instead of in.

Don't know if it makes a lot of sense to me... but I thought I would pass that on.

That is exactly what I was looking for... do you have a different angle of the top one... I like the close-up, but cant see where the openings are clearly cut out.

I think it would look better with them cut out... just wanting to explore my options before cutting.

Def open.

Positive ventilation will help to keep the motor cooler at the min. At the max...fab up an air box intake for it

Wow.... I like it. Thanks for the closeup contrasting color picture... I think I am going to cut them out tonight.

I also like how everyone is NOT running the hood pins. All the mfgs always say you MUST have them, and I was really torn about it, but with yours blasting down the track and no problems, I dont think I will either.

I have hood pins sitting on the work bench waiting to be installed. I just haven't had the time since the motor is out because it blew up.

In my opinion they do not look right if you don't cut them open, but to get an idea of what it looks like that way just look at a picture of Eleanor, if your lucky you may find one or two pictures of her somewhere online. Not the ones that they are making today though with Shelby's OK as that is a huge honkin scoop that they had to make special to accomodate the big engines. The original one in the movies that Chip Foose made had an incorrect smaller engine and so he used the correct size scoop as you have, only modified and closed up. It has never looked right ot me like that though.

I would think that at the least if you left it closed you should add a fake grill screen or something like they do on modern cars so it appears not to look out of place.
