'68 CA special.... how much $$

I have been out of mustang pricing for quite some time. I bought my mustang a little over 6 years ago and haven't kept tabs on what cars are going for these days.

A friend of mine is selling a '68 CA Special. It has a 289 2v, C4 and 8-inch rear end. It is a pretty solid car, the floor pans are very solid, there are a couple small areas of rust around the rear wheel wells.

It is also very complete. It has all the CA Special stuff, fog lights, scoops, shelby tail lights, correct trunk lid etc...

It has been repainted once and they seemed to do a good job of switching colors and masking. Allthough it needs to be repainted again. The interior needs to be redone as well. So it is a good solid start which needs pretty much everything to be gone through to some extent, or it would also make a decent/uglyish driver.

The best part (for me) is that the engine isn't running good. Making the price lower :D

So assuming the engine needs to be rebuilt and the things mentioned above, what do you think this car is worth? How much is a CA Special worth over a similar condition standard '68 coupe.

Thanks,
Efren

check the internet & newspaper classifieds for what the classics are going for in your area, then judge accordingly. The "market value" of a classic stang in big city Cali will likely be a lot different than what the same car might bring in West Podunk, Missouri.

The CA Special & High Country Special packages are really just for appearance, with no performance upgrades (as far as I know). Because of that, I don't think a CA Spec. would justify a drastically higher price than a regular coupe. JMHO. For me, it would be the car's mechanical/body condition that would make the difference.

Good luck.

The thing is that there aren't that many '67-68 stangs for sale in my area. Nor do I have the time to go around to each one and look at it. I haven't seen a single CA Special for sale. There is no way it is worth anywhere near $11,000. I would say it is worth somewhere around 2-3k. Maybe I can get some more opinions?

Well, I'm in Minnesota so take this with a grain of salt. However, I would expect someone to want closer to $11k than $2k. I once saw a basket case 70 Shelby and the guy wanted $50k. That was 10+ years ago too. I realize a Shelby is more collectable, but still $2k seems awfully low to me.

I looked at a web site and came up with about $8k. However, the bottom line always comes down to what the seller will part with it for. If the guy thinks his Mustang is "special" (pun intended) :D he might want a lot.

Good luck.

my budy sold his last year for $12,500.. Beautiful repaint of a T code red car with black interior,, 302 J code with an automatic and working a/c. The car needed nothing... was driven primarily to shows on the weekend.. took him about 3 months to find a buyer for it...

you're in the right neighborhood, but the price can move up or down depending on what needs replacing and what is there..
