69 351w vs 90 351w

im about to get a motor to pull down and start building it.. i can choose between a 69 4bbl motor.. or a 90 windsor.. difference is i know of ones a roller and ones not.. which block is stronger??? im building a stoker looking for 500+ so it needs to be strong

definatly go with the 69 block. they are both non-roller blocks. the early blocks are highly saught after for their streangth over the later blocks.

Neither is a roller, go with whichever is of a better condition.

How do you figure? There weren't any particular changes in the '69 blocks and refining techniques have improved since then. I figure they're on equal footing.

And you can 4 bolt the other 351W blocks,but the 69' has flat main bulkheads,whitch makes it alot easier.

I wonder if there is a differance in cylinder wall thickness?Hmm....

Hmm... thought they stopped that in '68. I don't have any of my books with me so that was just off the top of my head. It wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

So far as I know, 69 was the first year of the 351w.

The 69-74 blocks all feature thicker mains/walls.

The 69-70 is a 9.48" deck height
71+ is 9.503

Keep that in mind when you look at rotating assemblies, it is very important of the pistons will be sticking out of the bore.

i have a 72 351w block and have had no problems with it. I would say go with the stronger 69 block. Another thing that differ's in the 2 blocks i believe is the 69 is a 2 piece rear main seal and the 90 is a 1 piece. i would also think that the 69 block would be a little heavier.
