Have a new project ,69 70 rear seat interior quarter panels .
I have a fairly decent set of 69 panels ,a few scratches and some flaking paint . I am sanding them down smooth ,fixing any problem areas and spraying with high build primer so i can block them out smooth . Once smooth i will retexture and pull a mold

Panels smoothed out ,all scratches fixed and sprayed with high build primer . Next step is to block sand and apply the new texture .

The panels are glued to a plywood and pine board backing so they do not distort as i lay up the fiberglass mold . The mold will be 4 layers of 2 ounce mat ,should be close to 1/4 inch thick

Waxed the parts and sprayed 3 coats of mold release . Damn! I forgot to clean out my gelcoat gun the other day now it is junk ! Looks like a new one in the near future .
One layer of matt today and probably finish up tomorrow ,and if no more problems i will have new molds next week!

Sanded the splinters off the outside of the mold ,cut it close and popped the original part out . The mold needs to be finish trimmed and scrub the mold release out but so far its looking good .

Will you be building more support for these molds?

How many can you pull before major repair is needed?

Yes ,they will have a support attached on the back . I have molds that have put out a couple of hundred parts . As long as i use the spray in mold release it helps protect the mold when removing parts .

I actually used the pop rivets to hold the brackets to a sheet of aluminum

Well ,i wasnt happy with the texture of the molds, they came out great but the texture was to smooth .
I sanded the panels down and started over . I couldnt get black texture this time but i got the same thing in bronze. This time the texture turned out perfect !
