found an 88 gt vert in junkyard and im gonna swap the 8.8 rearend into my 83. What gears are in the 8.8's ? Is this a direct bolt on do the quad shocks have to be on mine too? It also has BBk springs would it be worth it putting those on my stock 83 are these springs good? Would the springs work on my Vert? Thanks in advance

It should be a direct bolt-on. As for the gears it could be 2.73, 3.08, or 3.27.
Just remember if the springs were upgraded its a good guess the gears had also been changed. The BBK springs should fit and are an improvement over the stock originals.

I didnt have a prob with putting the 8.8 in mine, it was an SN-95 rear though. Some of the 8.8's have the junction for the brake lines on the opposite side..which can be a pain.. the box bolts under the housing vent asn splits the incomming brake line to each wheel. You wont be able to use the factory slapper bars any more, so the quad setup might be a good idea. I get some pretty bad wheel hop with mine without it.. or you might just spring for new lower control arms or have yours boxed..

Everything was the same on mine, I pulled the brakes off and wired them up out of the way while I dropped the rear, then bolted them back up.. didnt even have to disconnect the lines so no bleeding them later.. :nice:

oh yeah, the little clip that bolts to the 7.5 cover to hold the brake line wont work with the 8.8.. I just left it off..

might try searching http://www.foureyedpride.com/phpBB2/index.php?sid=6cac9baecf4fd6792c5a17528ae0b769

a few people have done the swap.. :nice:
