There is a '79 capri that I am interested in, what heads and cam on this year engine would bring power up to respectable levels?
I was thinking about some GT-40's will this help or hurt CR? I am unsure of who makes a good cam for this engine.

The 79 Capri stock was a plain 140 hp 302 two barrel, with D80E heads (from memory...) This is an old school 302, ie 28 oz balance engine, flat tappet cam, mechanical fuel pump. An excellent engine to build.

My 79 Capri now has iron Gt40 heads, a Holley intake and 4v carb, and a bit more cam. It has a Comp XE256, which I like. It is mostly a driver, so you could go up quite a bit on cam. If it is an auto trans car, it will benefit a lot from a looser converter and some gears.

The Gt40 heads will increase compression some, you have 69 cc chambers, and the GT40's have 64 or so chambers. You could mill them and get a bit more compression.

This has been a good combo for me. My 82 Mustang has the iron GT40s, C4, etc and it has run high 12's all motor.

Thanks, this car is a C-4 still all stock except for dual exhuast, I was thinking Heads, cam(not sure which one)E-brock intake around 600 cfm carb, shorty headers, gears would be nice but should I just upgrade it too a 8.8 or run the 7.5 untill it breaks.

Upgrade to the 8.8. Get a used one and gut it.

So if I get some GT-40's how much lift can I run, something in hte 490-520 lift area be alright?
this would be a street strip car.
