Another issue I took care of recently was having my 8.8 re-oiled. I noticed the back tires weren't spinning like they should. It seemed sluggish, and having everything in the motor taken care of, I ruled everything else out.
I had the oil drained and it was a third full, and the oil was grey in color, smelled horrible. It was also somewhat sloppy looking (as thick as St. Benard dog drool) when it drained out. The mechanic added 2 bottles of Royal Purple gear oil (90 W145 I think?). After running for a little while, the car had a whole new attitude. It felt stronger, and I had much more responsivness to the tires than before. It still feels stronger today, although the wheels spin easier.
Can swapping out the gear oil make that much of a difference in the drivability of the vehicle? I don't do a whole lot of driving but I felt a difference and feel kind of cheated because I always felt the car was sluggish. Now I know why.
The rear end is 3.55
