Anyone ever seen this sort of damage? Not sure what caused this other than possibly the wrong fluid. Anybody have any input. I'm new to the 8.8's and Trac Loks. Thanks for any input

Wear, time, abuse. If you think about what that pin actually does it gets alot of stress put on it. If there are no shavings in the bottom of the housing and the slot were the pin goes looks ok get a new pin and retaining bolt and put it back together.

Was the green lock bolt still there? If it backed out, that could have caused it too.

Yeah I think I going to replace the pin and spiders. It looks like the inside of the spider gear is a little gauled up also. Should I be running a friction modifier with the Lucas? The label says no additives needed.

Sounds like the bolt was in there tight, but broken. The axles only spin against two, opposite sides of the pin, not all the way around it.

From what I understand the modifier is not needed if you are using fluid that already has it (most synthetic fluids). If your already in there I would also replace the trac lock clutch packs if they haven't been replaced recently. Just make sure you soak them in whatever fluid your using for about 20mins before you install them. The modifier just gives the clutches some added slip so you wont get the dragging/lockup around tighter corners.

Are we talking about the same bolt? If you are refering to the bolt that goes through the end of the pin, then it was undamaged.

Whats the scoop with the F150 spring? What does it do?

Its stiffer than the Mustang spring. Just a cheap upgrade, especially if you use the carbon fiber clutch packs. I've used Ford Track loc's with carbon fiber clutch packs, F150 springs and gears to get cars well into the 12's with no issues. Also, if you can snag an Explorer differential they are 31 spline from the factory.

They are very tight and sometimes a PITA to get that spring in. I use a big hose clamp to tighten it down and then after install I cut the clamp. Makes the install much easier.

Is that rust all in the gears?

Holy chit! I never though of that!!! I just always muscled and cussed them in. Wow, you just blew my mind, man! SO simple, yet, so effective.
