82 mustang GT vs 88 mustang LX

Your car is probably faster, also the 4 speed in that mustang is a big hunk of crap SROD. Your AOD has better gear ratios than that 4 speed and if that 4 speed is going out you just about cant find anyone who can rebuild it. With that 82 mechanically you will be taking 2 steps backwards.

Just be patient for once in your life, you don't have to have everything the moment you want it. The donor car I used the drive train out of had an AOD in it, so from when I was 15 until I was 18 I had an AOD in my mustang. When I had the money and the will to swap everything back to a manual, I did.

Just swap the tranny behind his back. Its easier to ask for forgiveness then permission

not with my old man....if i did that he would for sure to to piss me off, spite me and report my car stolen while i was out and about just to get back at me....im 16 so it has to be in his name and at 16 you cant legally own ****. even though i 100% own my mustang its in his name and if i swapped it he would flip out..

i have no problem with swapping it in..i have the time because i can do it in 2 days...from what ive heard the peddles are the biggest pain because the sterring column has to be dropped and such...the trans is 4 bolts and i believe the bellhousing is 8 bolts if i remember correctly...i had to put the rebuilt AOD into my car and it only took about 2 hours from getting the old one out to the new one in and taking it around the block.

a guy is interested in trading his 1982 ford mustang GT 5.0 4 speed for my mustang

do you guys think this would be wise on my part? the 82 gt is in really good shape nice paint it has a 5 lug 8.8 rear in it 3.08 posi the front is still 4 lug it has welded tq boxes and southside upper and lower control arms flowmaster cat back and a 4bbl carb. then it has some type of ugly centerline wheels on it...

it even have a rear hatch wiper? never knew they made em  red with black lower in pretty good shape 4 speed with a new clutch.

how do you guys think a carbed car would be where i live? if i did trade him this would be my daily driver and i need to to start for me!

he sent me some pics!

i really love the look of an 82 GT but im torn becasue id rather have EFI

we gonna try and meet up this weekend to look over each others cars...i just dont know what to do :(

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!!:hail2: :hail2: :hail2: :hail2: :hail2: :hail2:

You could always convert it to fuel injection. My Ex brother-in-law had a fuel injected '82 GT. That car was quick.

Easy recipe for dead AOD. Place shifter in neutral. Stop on gas pedal like its home is on the asphalt. Wait until the rpm's are nice and high before dropping the trans into D. Hope for the best.

I have an 8.8 out of a 90 Mark VII LSC for sale. Its 15 minutes from the norwalk dragstrip and 20 minutes from cedar point. It has no rotors/calipers on it, needs backing plates but has a 3.27 trac loc.

ii got a 3.73 posi rear sitting in my shed.

so how old are you ryan??? i'm sure i've seen it on here before, but i don't really know for sure....

i'm still quite young (i feel much too old already though!!!), but i know i reached a point when my parents couldn't control me at all. not that i was wreckless or anything, but i made my own decisions, and accepted responsiblity for my actions. and they couldn't do anything about it...... i grew up in a very reserved household, but i broke the mold and they learned to deal with it. i've got tons of stories, but i'll save them for my grandkids!

I'm confused  . your dad doesn't want you to make the car faster with a t-5 swap but you posted a few days ago you plan motor mods shooting for 270whp? don't let him read these forums then :D . really the T5 swap will gain some power but it isn't earth shattering, it's more about who is behind all the HP and how he raised you, if you are a smart kid with your head on right like you seem on here he should learn to trust you and let you grow and learn. If you mess up then bring on the rath of dad.best of luck.

I would pass on the '82. There's bound to be some rust hidden somewhere. While this is easily fixable, the motor and trans are junk. The only reason I see going for the '82 is that it's not a vert, and you don't see a lot of them. Just do the 5 spd swap in your car. Try doing a ton of roll backs and neutral drops with the auto.
a 5 speed would be really nice to do along with a mass air swap...can i use an engine harness from a 92 for an 88? along with the computer? from a 5 speed car?

Leave the speed density unless you're doing internal engine mods. It will be faster with SD.
