Progress Thread 83 Convertable Engine swap

It has Dorbon (sp) fittings at the transmission .
Sorta like Shark Tooth fittings for water lines.
Called around, and of all places O’ Reilly’s said they would have them tomorrow. :)
Have I ever told ya “ I LOVE O’Reilly’s) ?
One other little glitch——we were making do with the old throttle cable bracket, but knew it had to be replaced.
I had ordered it, and it arrived today
Sadly it was a bracket for a fuel injected set up. No way was it going to fit.
Ya I was pissed.
Called LMR and told them the situation.
This young man understood what I needed.
Supposed to be here Friday.

Glad that Blueprint Engines motor worked for you. I think that might be a good idea for replacing the engine in my Mercury.

I also wanted to say that you should always call LMR if anything they send you doesn't work out. They're widely known in the late-model community for their great customer service. If they do something wrong, they'll usually make it right very quickly.

I have been satisfied with LMR.
Sometimes things are misunderstood.
It’s all good—said the proper bracket will be here Friday.
I’m very happy with the engine :)

Transmission cooling line fitting came in today.
Took the tool they sold me to release the tube from the fitting.
Wouldn’t budge.
Sweated under the car for about 15 minutes— wouldn’t release.
Finally go down to Ford to borrow their tool.
Said the tool I had was right, just fight it some more.
RamJet finally came over to see why I was cussing.
He looked at the new fitting, then looked at the old fitting.
“Hell its just plastic in there”
Told me to get the vise grips and hold the fitting.
Lit up the torch and melted it right out.
Sprayed the tube down with water,
Inserted into the fitting —wrenched it in—no more leaks:)

A few tune up tweak left to do, and it’s finally coming home.
Took it to a side street behind the shop—stood on it.
Sorta took a dive for a moment, then had some G forces :)
That will be corrected :)
I was impressed.
Hey—the hood is back on :)
I’m happy.

Went down to the shop today to top off the transmission fluid, take it and wash it.
While letting it idle to check the fluid, I decided to just leave it run to see the fans turn on.
They never did :(
Pulled it back into the shop, he checked it and found a ground
Got them to going, so after he left I started it again let it run to temperature, and they still wouldn’t start cooling.
I know he will get it right, but this stuff has not helped my Blood Pressure.
I know it will get there, but this :poo: is driving me crazy.
Just to warn you all—this thread will continue for—Hell I don’t know how long.
After driving it the short distance I did, yesterday I realized I need to upgrade the front brakes now.
I’ve made the decision to go to the 87 to 93 set up.
I know some will not agree with this, but this is what I’m going to do. Staying 4 lug.

I know there are post on here that details the process , but I would be 3 days trying to find it.
So if one of you would be so kind to show me the link, I would be grateful to you for ever.
No need to post any pictures—same as yesterday only with the hood up.

Nothing new to report.
LMR’s e-mail has left me hanging.
Gonna send me the :poo: to return the fan controller.
Nothing about sending me a new one.

I’m not gonna screw with em.
When my Daughter comes over later I’m going to have her order a new controller from Amazon.
Matter of fact think I’ll do that for everything.
Free shipping, and easy returns.
LMR has pissed me off for the last time.
Fans not working is all that is holding me up.

By the way— the fans work until the engine gets about to operating temperature, then shut off, and stay off.
Kill the engine, and turn the ignition key, they start back up and run, and will run until the battery drains if you let them.

Crap never ends.
It has a drain on the battery that we haven’t found yet.
The wiring harness on this thing is all over the place.
The old V6 had some many vacuum hoses, and wiring that went to crap I don’t need.
Thinking about buying a new wiring harness and just wire up what is needed, and rip out the rest.
Just wanna run the engine, and the accessories that I wanna keep.
If nothing else it will clean up the engine bay.
