I have an 88 mustang that I bought a couple of years ago. The guy before me changed it from an auto to a manual. I took it to the mechanic yesterday to get a clutch put in and he called me today and said that the tranny is from a 84 and it has a different size clutch disc (I think he said 10 inch).

Anyway, to the question:

Should I be concerned about having an 84 transmission in the car? It is relatively stock.

10.5" flywheel and clutch didn't come out til 86'. T-5 came out in 83' 5.0's. No worries with a stock motor, but don't abuse it(it's not as stong as a newer one would be, but it could be the same trans as an 88'/ not sure. Just like any other T-5 though a shifter with overtravel stops would do it alot of good.

Well, I'm just going to have a 10 inch put in it and forget about it. I also have a MGW shifter in it with the stops to protect it from overtravel.

The previous owner kinda screwed me on this this car. I feel like its a Frankenstein but I was uneducated at the time of purchase.

Since I bought the car I've found out the tranny is from an 84. The driver side door is from a 91. The head rests are from I don't know where.

I'm going to sell the car when I get the clutched replaced. Any buyers?
