I have an 86 gt and although i have a decent headunit, the speakers are on their last leg and crackle alot and break up at higher volume.

Is there any place i can get better speakers that fit in the factory locations and how hard is it to replace the dash speakers and where else did they put speakers other than the doors.

thanks

If you have the dash speakers they are 4½" the doors were either 5½" or 6½" (depends on the sound system from the factory). The rear is a 6x8/5x7.

Check out Crutchfield and they'll get you set up w/ the exact speakers that you need. FTLOG, don't buy em from there unless you absolutely need the installation manuals they provide. Get the brand/model of the speakers you want and get them off of eBay for about ½ of what Crutchfield sells them for.

86 has the same size dash speakers as 87-93. there 3.5s i know this cuz i replaced them in the capri i had. my capri didnt have door speakers, they were right by the back seat almost even with the bottom of the seat an they were 5.25's an the way backs were 6X9's not the normal 5X7 or 6X8s like in the 87-93 foxes. for replacement in the dash theres a couple screws on the dash pad an the surrounding piece around the gauges an then you can get to the dash speakers. its a pain cuz you need a tiny screwdriver. i would recommend either infinity or pioneer speakers for bein pretty cheap an good sound quality. you dont need anything crazy if your gonna power them by the headunit an not an external amp. hope this helps
