'86 short block buildup?

I am getting ready to buy an '86 LX, and I know that there isn't much you can do with the stock short block bcuz of the pistons. My question is will TFS wedge heads fit, not the Rs, with what intake too? Also, can I safely run 1.7 rockers?

I'm not readly concerned about getting the most power, or a cam swap on this motor. I just something that will get me by until I can get my 351 together later. The car will be turned to MAF eventually, but that is later. I guess whatever it takes to get me well into the 13s(n/a) until I can get the 351 together is what I am aiming for. The car weights 3080 without the driver and about a 1/4 tank. It is a 5sp with 3.55s.

The 86 short block is actually a good engine. Forged rods and pistons, and a relatively high comp ratio of 9.3 to 1. The Trick Flows will fit fine. I was running an 86 long block with stock heads and an E-303 cam, and the car ran 13.8 with drag radials and 3.55 gears. And it was carbed. I called TrickFlow, and they said it would fit just fine, and just as well as the later notched pistons. They said it didnt matter since the Trick Flows dont use the stock notches anyways since the valves are canted. I would think my old combo with trickflows and slicks and some more practice could easily have netted 12's. Imagine if I had 4.10's!! I'd run the stock intake for now since your going 351 later. This will save you money since the different engines require different intakes. I think your setup with 1.6 rollers, E-303 or equivalent, TrickFlows or any 1.94 valve head, exhaust, and 3.55 or lower will net you very low 13's or 12's with slicks.

If I was going to get an intake, I would either run the TMoss lower or buy one off someone for cheap.

Dont waste your money on that TMOSS/Thumper crap. Its all hype. If you must have an intake, just get an explorer intake.

Also, from talking to a friend that had a 86, I thought that you couldn't run any cam without having v/p clearence problems? Or, is it more of a hit and miss? Also, what are the spec of the B cam, I'm new to this mustang stuff?
