I seen this on feebay and was about to pull the trigger but this guys description has me wondering. Ive heard a couple times that the 86 stock system is a one year deal. So will this kit work for my 86? He says it will in one part of the listing, then 3 places it says its 87-93. Anyone with this swap in a 86 that can help?

You should be able to get it to work with that kit. It's actually nice to see someone that makes a kit for it. You will need to grind the alternator bracket a little bit to fit the 3 G alternator in there. You should have 2 pigtails for your current alternator. The important one is the smaller plug. It has a green, a yellow, and a white wire. So long as that's there, it will work.

There are wiring diagrams on veryuseful.com. The white wire is simple, it goes from the 3 wire pigtail right back into the alternator. It controls the field current. The yellow wire supplies continuous hot power from the fuse box. The green wire goes into the dash and through the dummy light in the dash, and then to a hot source on the ignition key. It turns the alternator on. The large wire just has to go to the positive battery side somewhere. Very simple to wire.

That kit will do the same thing for an 86 that it will for 87-93.

you dont need a kit, the wiring diagram is pretty simple, and only takes about 2 hours to install

I think the kit is worth the money. It's pretty hard to track that fusable link down. By the time you find all that stuff you will have spent more money in gas and wasted a lot of time.
