I have an 88GT and know the fenders are different in the 87-90 vs 91-93 question is does anyone know what it would take to change the fenders to 91-93 other than just new fenders? I plan on getting the car painted at the end of the project, so that will be the time to do it if it can be done. Thanks

As I understand, the GT ground effects are a little different than the earlier cars, so they might need changed. Maybe the liners too? I'm sure someone will be along with more concrete info - I'm going from memory from when I had my 84.

The area that changed on the fenders is the area ahead of the front wheel.

So you upgrade to the 91-93 fenders you would need the fender, and the correct GT ground effect spat ahead of the wheel.

Edit: Wheel well liners differ as well

You will need new wheel well liners and the spats are different.

This is perfect thank you. Now I know when I get ready to order my new cobra body kit just to get the one for a 91-93 and new fenders and roll the out of them, hood and hatch and will be good to go I was just worried about the way they bolted up.

That's a bummer the entire fender needs to be replaced, I always thought it was just that little front ground effect that was the difference.

What these guys are saying is the "correct method"

I bought the 91+ gt pieces and me and my body guy worked the fenders to fit, and just had to trim the liners a little to fit...

less than $150(gt pieces off FB) I can't tell the difference

(I would have bought new fenders if. Mine weren't freshly painted or had been in bad shape)

What work went into getting your existing fenders to match the lines?

The lines match where the piece meets the fender.. the work need is lower so you don't have fender sticking out behind the spat.

Basically a wedge is trimmed out and the back flange (where the spat screws into) is brought forward and tacked in place

The crazy thing is mine were actually rubbing the back not the front so something may be wrong with the control arms or KMember
