87 gt build thread

I recently bought a 1987 mustang gt. It's not the first mustang I have owned, but it's the first 5.0. I have wanted a 5.0 since high school. I pick it up for $1000 and some alpine stuff .

It needs some work. The fuel gauge does not work. It needs floor pans, and some work on the front frame. The motor is stock I think. Runs really strong for being bolted to a O.D. tranny. Needs tranny upgrades for sure . First floor work so it passes safety.

i would say you got a good deal, the interior needs some cleaning up to hide all the wires but you made out ok!

That interior is calling for help and a change to black. Ditch the red cheese graters. Good luck with it projects = Fun.

Well i toke out the carpet, know I can see really how bad the floor is. I am going to be changing the two floor pans. Hopping to order them in the next few weeks. $250 + tax

well being in Canada you won't find a running 5.0 for that little too often. I cruise the classifieds all the time and people want $6000+ for crappy 4 cylinder convertibles

I'm guessing the car is still speed density and the air tube was purchased used from another car that had maf.

Yes the car is speed density, Iam not going to bother making it maf because going to swap it to carb. I think I got a good deal, there has been a 4 cyl lx for sale for almost a year now for $2500. So $1000 plus about $800 of alpine stuff I think was worth it. I work at audiotronic so I get alpine stuff cheap

don't convert it to carb, you'll take any value out of it. You arejust asking for a whole new set of headaches. Switching to mass air is not neccessary but if you decide to do it, is easy to do and can be done with little expense. All you need is a mass air computer, mass air meter and wiring adapter and a little time. Start cleaning up under the hood and paint some stuff and you'll be amazed at the results.

agreed with above. leave the EFI in there. It is fine as long as you leave the stock cam. If you go HCI then swap in the mass air. Not hard at all and parts are easy to find. Just do some housekeeping on it.

I finaly found a place to work on my car. I have not touch it much. So far the hood is the only thing remove. I think the first step will be getting it on the road.

Did some work this weekend, the interior is almost all strip.

I also started on getting the motor ready to be removed so i can fix the frame.

Well a little story; last summer when I was driving my car around, I ended up running in to the guy that built the car. lol He said he put lot of time and money in the car. As I was taking the interior apart, I noticed that it was held together with 2" wood screws. I guess they were not on sale as he said "he spent a lot of money on the car." Then I go get a heater core for the car because there is none in it. It does not fit the car, so I go back to the parts store and try to figure out why it does not fit. Someone change the heater assembly to a ac unit. Seem like this car has been f#$@ with so much. I hate it when people don't do things properly. What's a few extra bucks or one more day to finish it properly. You get more pride out of your work and you know its done right. :canada;
