88 5.0 sat for over a year wont start

just bought car and it sat for over a year.it ran fine when parked.if i give it a shot of starter fluid it fires and will run really rough if i pump the gas and it wont rev past 2500 if i put the pedal all the way to the floor it just dies like its starving for fuel any advise or check list would be great

Siphon the gas out of the tank and replace with fresh gas and try again.

The fuel pump is probably quiting after a car sits for a while the ethanol in gas today deteriorates the pump if u parka car its good to go fire it up every now and then

bad gas, clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump. Check cap and rotor. I would also run some fuel injector cleaner with a full tank of gas in there to clean it up.

You can check for pressure at the schrader valve

At this point, this is the first thing I'd check too.

Same here. However if it has sat for over a year and no fuel stabalizer was used I would suspect bad gas as well.

can you hear pump running atleast? check fuel pressure regulator for pressure

thanks

thanks 4 everybodys help but still bad news i cleaned out the gas tank changed the fuel filter and the pump is running and getting presure to the S-valve but still the same thing but it did run rite for about 5 mins then it started doing the same thing agian i know alittle bit about fords an i was thinking throttle pos senser or egr or coil but not sure where to start im on a limited budget so if i dont have to buy it all i dont wanna have to kno what i mean

Get it to where it won't keep running and go through the Cranks But No-Start Checklist.

When you say "pressure to the S-valve", does that mean that you put a gauge on it? Or you just poked it and saw fuel come out? Because if there's only 10 psi, you'll see pressurized fuel at the rail but it'll run like crap.

Get a gauge and check. Even 3 psi will spray pretty good.
