Hi everyone hope you're warmer than us here in Iowa!

My 88gt with the 5.0 Air Density engine has a mild built lower half including 24# injectors. The previous owner (original) reinstalled the factory upper/lower intake for whatever reason.

I have seen tons of pros/cons on the gt40p heads/intake set-up which alot of people say don't do because that set-up is NOT a direct plug n play.

Sucks because i have access to a complete gt40p set-up including the headers. The other complaints was, it was an overrated, outdated option only giving an additional 10-15hp.

My heads are factory to the car other than being P&P'd. Is there any "Budget Brand" upper half kits on the market? I don't really care if its Chinese, im not going to be competitively racing just the normal stoplight to stoplight stuff. Thanks!

Why not just run the Explorer setup if you can get it. Beats the stock intake setup.

There's a thread over on corral.net in the 5.0 Windsor tech forum detailing gt40 setups making 300 crank hp with some well built combos putting down 300 rwhp. Doesn't seeem like a waste of time if thought out.

Installing the explorer intake isn't that big of a deal. Not 100% direct fit but most of that has to do with setting up the vacuum lines. It's a fine street intake

Btw, are you running your '88 with speed density and 24# injectors?

Hi, yes on the 24# injectors, the previous owner did all the upgrades and i have all the maintenance records and upgrade parts receipts. He bought a 93 Cobra svt and lost interest in the 88gt so i bought it.

Thanks for the information on the gt40p heads and intake, i have access to that set-up, but like i said some people told me not to waste my time because its not as easy as it sounds.

The gt40 intake alone may give only 10-15hp. But the gt40p or gt40 heads with the explorer intake can get you 40-50hp over stock if setup right.

Thats a nice hp gain! I might just buy the complete set-up then. I guess the "p" is a little bit better and it comes with the headers too which i guess are real pain in the butt to install. I have long tube headers on my Mustang now so i will have to have my exhaust redone up front.

Combustion chamber volume is a little smaller on the p heads too. So that bumps the compression up a tad compared to the non p gt40's

Nice!, Im kinda glad the previous owner didn't complete some of this stuff, gives me a chance to dig into it and learn about these things. Next will be traction control Lol. I wish i could find a set of old school slapper bars that came on some of the early fox mustangs.

Don't need the slapper bars, just good lower control arms and new uppers with new bushings on the rear end housing, and traction control is the right foot.
Oh, and a rear gear change makes a would of difference.
do you still have the quad shocks?
