I'd say, for simplicity's sake, splurge on the LMR piece. I just installed one on my Cobra II to get rid of the hoses running down the intake. It sure does take less space than the hoses did!

I'm not sure, but I think the 5.0 Explorers use the same piece, so maybe you could get lucky at your local p-n-p and find one that way.

there's a couple 5.0 exploders at the pnp so I'll go look and see if it's similar enough. thanks for the suggestion. I looked at a 5.0 Crown Vic but it's not the same.

Just looked one up, it's different. The tubes at the backside toward the firewall turn 90* and the temperature sensor location is at the manifold fitting. I guess you might be able to make it work if you were to find one, but it's not the same part.

Here's one on Ebay so you can see the difference and decide it it's worth looking at.

Units pulled from a 1996 Ford Explorer 5.0L 302 v8. Unit shows normal signs of usage and wear. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you will receive.

So in pictures it looks like it could work.

Honestly i might get the new one cause i know those things rust out. The one i have is just a short tube and it's pretty pitted as well.

My brother who was a ase mechanic
Hated the hard metal and plastic heater pipes they use. He's seen so many break.
He taught me to always carry JB stick putty.
And extra heater hoses.
