ok ive had this problem since i bought my car with 40k on it, the seats have a release button so people could get in back, normally, as in most other cars, when this button is hit the seats move forward so people can get in, however on mine the button is a useless POS. it does nothing, my seats will lean forward freely. is there someway to turn the button on or off, or is is broken, can i even fix it? i have the seats out of the car right now so fast response are greatly apreciated !

are you talking about the slider? that slides the seat forward? if so there should be a two springs one that connects the left side to the right then there is a stiff bigger spring that connects to the slider this spring is towards the back of the seat, if that spring is missing your seat isnt going anywhere.

only one seat has on, and its connected, but still that button doesnt make the seat move forward, idk if i am describing it very well, i mean the latch thing on the back of the seat used to allow rear passengers, both dont do anything

He is talking about the itty bitty tiny lever on the BACK of the front seat... pushing on it is suppose to allow the top half of the seat to lean forward so the passengars in the back can get out.

I honestly dont know why you care that much... mine move freely (same problem you got apparently) and I like it that way. It keeps people from pushing real hard of the seat before they notice they need to use the little lever... meh... its easier for them and keeps me from having to explain how to get the seat to lean forward

now im just confused

lever on back of seat... leans top half of seat forward...

bar underneath the front of the bottom half of the seat slides the entire seat forward...

if ur seat both leans and slides forward freely.. yea... thats a problem.

I bought mine new, and the release levers never did anything. The seat backs just move freely and don't lock. Maybe it is a quirk with the 89s.

On my 93 (which I got w/ few miles on it in 94):

Lever on the BACK of the upper portion of the seat only leans the back of the upper portion of the seat forward. Has no effect on the lower portion of the seat.

Lever on the SIDE of the lower portion of the seat is what everyone pulls up to get in the rear and all it does is put the back of the upper portion of the seat in an upright and locked position.

Lever on the FRONT of the lower portion of the seat allows the lower portion of the seat to slide back and forth.

Hope this helps.

EXACTLY.. I have '89 Seats in my car and the lever works.. Its funny because my friends with stangs are surprised that my seats are the only ones they know of that dont move freely forward..

My 89 seats never had the level working... I now have 01 seats in it, and the lever works. NOONE figures it out and will continue to push on the top of the seat until I show them.

My solution, rear seat delete!
