I just got halo headrests that are supposed to fit all 79 to 83 Mustang LX and GT's, removed the headrest from the lx sport seat and found that the hole and entire plastic sliding mechanism is smaller and has a slot running down the center. I have seen many of these seats with halo headrests and was unaware of any differences between years or need for modification. Before I go machining down the aluminum on the headrest or shaving and cutting the mechanism, am I missing something here?

First, please turn off the caps :nice:

Second...to clarify, do you mean the holes for the '89 seats are smaller or the old seats have smaller holes? If the new seats have smaller holes, just grind or drill them out to the right size and be done with it.

Yank the plastic trim peiced out of the 87+ seats and then the halo headrests will fit fine. I had to do the same thing with my car. Plastic will come out if you pull.

Thanks, I think I'll try that, what about the holes left over, are there replacement plastics available from other seats or do they look ok once the headrest is in place?

There are no holes. Just make sue to clean the area under the plastic it will be dirty. You won't see it when the headrests is in place because it will cover it.

It's what i did for my seats...and you can't see it at all
