90 GT sputtering and dying on startup...

I'm currently at work. My friend has a 90 model GT and just called to tell me that it won't start. It will start but run badly sputter away and die. I have the tools to find out what it is once I get home but that won't be for a few hours.
The car has 95000 miles on it and has been due for a tune up. I'm thinking fuel the way he says it's sputtering and dying. Could it be the pump or filter? This just happened today. I need something to tell him to ease his nerves until I get home.

not really much you can tell him IMO. For sure do a tune up if it's in need of one. Change the fuel filter.

If that doesn't fix it, check fuel pressure and timing. Make sure it has enough gas.

Maybe clean the MAF.

agreed with James. about all he could do there is hook up a FP guage to see if he has and maintains pressure.
