So I noticed these bunpers were listed for 91-93 hatch, which made me wonder if they were made to work with the upgraded latch that showed up in 92 (or late 91 depending on your source)

So I picked up a pair
https://lmr.com/item/N806487/1991-93-Mustang-Hatch-Bumpers?year=1993&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlorr_tTi-AIVCd-GCh1iyA-IEAQYBiABEgKm5_D_BwE

Looking at my ‘88 I’m not sure they will work. It looks like there is a flat for them with a bump, but the shape looks different

Can someone with a 91-93 hatch chime in with some pics of the bumpers and how they mount? I obviously don’t want to drill unless I’m sure these will work

EDIT: I'm not talking about the round bumper on the right in the below pic, but an additional flat bumper the 91-93 cars have

I have a late 1990 build 1991 model and mine has the old style latch. I do not have a bumper in that location either, but mine does have one further up on the hatch.

Thanks for the pics. Good thing I asked because it seems I misunderstood where the bumper goes.

I dont have that divot on my hatch. So these bumpers won’t work for me. Looks like there is a slight difference in hatches

I have a 91, June of 1991 build and have holes for each of those separate bumpers.
Not sure if it’s the old or new latch so I will send a pic of that also.
The round one screws in and the square one pushes in.
Here are photos of what they look like installed.
If you need anything else specific let me know and I will take a look and photos when I get home tonight.
Hope this helps for now....

I’m now thinking the squares screw in. I will look when home.

I have the square bumpers in hand. They press in with a little nub.

Either way, looks like I can’t find them because I lack that feature on my hatch. Oh well.

Thanks for the help

I’m home. Yes they just push in.
There is a hole approx 5” above the top of the hatch strut/lift/shock for the square one to push in as you can see.
Separately, That square indented area with the dimple in the middle that’s between the round and the square bumper actually isn’t used for anything...
Here’s more pics in case needed by you or anyone in the future but seems it’s a mute point now. Sorry.

I have another question that doesn't really have to do with the bumpers but with the plugs instead, anyone know what size these guys are circled in green?
i recently switched to a 91-93 hatch for my 89 please and thanks

The round screw in bumpers where used on a lot of cars up to around 2008 as hood bumpers if your every in a u pull it type yard, some have a bit longer threaded portion but easy to trim.

I have a 1991 hatch.
The grommet is roughly 1-5/8” on the outside part that is visible and 1-1/8 on the inside part that snaps around the lip to hold it place...
See pictures
Hope this helps...

The round plug looks just like the one on the 2005 ford taurus trunk lid . I worked on one today but saw this thread afterwards.
