Hey guys and gals, I have a quick question that some of you may know off the top of your head. Will a '91 Ford F-150 with a 5.0 liter 302 have the GT-40p heads like on an explorer? I didnt know if the older truck engines did or not? My bro has one that he is going to part out, and Im going to take that engine off his hands if so... Thanks in advance!

More than likely, they're E7's. The GT40 heads weren't offered on any trucks of that era, except for the first gen Lightning and then later on, the Explorer/Mountaineer line.

StangGT1995 is right on the money. To add, the GT40 heads were on the earliest 5.0L Explorers, which later were replaced by the GT40 "P" castings.

The standard F150 heads are in fact E7TE castings, which is where the Mustang actually pirated them from in the first place.

Well, do you think its worth the time to get the E7s real cheap and do a home porting job, throw some new springs and have a valve job done? Or is that not going to get me enough extra power to be worth the time and money?

I guess I should add that my stang is my daily driver, so I dont want to take it out of commission. Otherwise I would have already pissed around with the homemade porting. These extra heads could be done on the side when I see fit, while still driving the stang...

I ported my heads and they along with my ported lower intake and bolt ons did a decent job of making power. My old 5.0L LX was good for mid-13's on street tires afterwards I'd guess. If it was only a ported head swap on an otherwise stock car, without an intake manifold upgrade (much like yourse), I probably wouldn't go through the trouble.

You can run 12's with ported heads (as proven by several on here), but you've got to be creative with the additional parts and you'll certainly have to put your SN95 on a diet. If it were me, I'd just keep saving for the Trick Flow top end like you have been.
