91 GT Need help identifying parts and some issue.

Hi all! New member. Just purchased a 91 with 38k miles. It has a host of tasteful upgrades but I need some help. I’m have some a/c issues, and cooling issues. Trying to figure out what I have.

First question: I have an upgraded radiator but I’m curious what the other part is in front of the Mishimoto. What is that with the coils in front that faces the grille? IMG_4853.webp IMG_4854.webp

Also, should I upgrade the fan? Seems to be a gap between the stock fan and radiator.

That’s a good place to start. I’ll ask about A/C issues next post.

Thanks!!!

Welcome aboard, I move this down the hall to the fox forums, OH, and fixed the title too.. Anyway, the gap at the shroud and radiator is just fine, and as for those tubes, you have the radiator of course, the AC condenser and the two tubes in front of that is likely power steering cooler tubes, not very efficient but better than nothing I guess.
Cooling issues eh? Check to see if the air damn is still present under the radiator support, just a plastic piece. Then check the clutch fan, cold engine you should feel a fair amount of resistance turning the fan by hand.
The plastic fan blades also crack at the hub so look for that, doesn't effect cooling unless it breaks off and then you're using your AAA card.
Post up a pic or two of this fabulous ride.
Also if you're going by the stock gauge.....they are a 'best guess', you can mount a temporary mechanical gauge, just zip tie that sucker to a wiper arm and hope it don't rain for a while, note temp readings in different driving scenarios, I'm thinking it's not puking coolant on the ground or smoking out the tail pipes.

thanks!

Here she is. I just had the digital dash and gps speedometer installed so I’m hoping it’s just a gauge issue. I do see I still have the airdam. Fan clutch was just replaced. I’m wondering if a vacuum leak could cause it as I’m also having A/C only blowing out of the defrost vents. I just had the motor mounts replaced so I’m wondering if something got damaged during that install.

I’m having my mechanic give it a good test tomorrow to make sure I’m ok. I also have a Wrangler I use for off-roading so I’m used to a money pit!

That digital dash is cool. Where is the sensor that feeds the temp gauge hooked up?

As mentioned the mechanical fan is plenty. If all looks good with the shroud, fan, fan clutch, airdam, and side radiator airdams then it’s something else. Could be an air pocket in the cooling system, low on coolant, etc.

Regarding the A/C only blowing out the defrost vents, There is a vacuum line that connects to the top of a valve or something right up/near behind the glovebox. Could see if that’s cracked or popped off.
