92 hatchback carpet- simple quetion!!

nobody will answer me on this question, but its really simple. does the original carpet in the rear of a 92 hatchback tuck under the plastic side panels and get screwed there or does it just lie on top of everthing for easy access to the spare tire?

Its only fastened by the back seats then it just lays on everything for easy access.
