93 cobra bumper question

Before I order this I want to make sure.

The strap of metal that bolts through the rear tail light panel to hold my GT bumper is in bad shape. Will I have to reuse this if I go with a Cobra bumper? I called Cervini's with not alot of help. Thanks

That little strip holds it in place, so I'd say you'd need to put one on there. You could probably put it on and get lucky but I wouldn't personally try or suggest it.

That's going to be a fun part to try and locate. Anybody ever see one on a website or anything?

No but I never looked either. Try Mustangs Unlimited and see if they have it.

I'd be looking for someone parting out a GT and ask if they can grab that for me. For 10-20 bucks or so it should be worth their 30 minutes or less to take the bumper off, I'd imagine.

I'm sure its no big deal to find one in a junk yard for a few bucks.

I know the ones here where you can't pull your own parts wouldn't bother with such a piece

I was thinking about installing a rear cobra bumper on my 89 coupe since I need a new rear bumper. I just want a bumper that fills in those stupid panels on the bottom of the quarters. I'm thinking about buying one and then trimming it to look like a lx bumper just to have the full wrap around one piece bumper look. What do you guys think? You think it will work?

Yeah you need that piece. Just hop in a junk yard and get one or look on Craigslist for someone parting a car out.

They had them along with the brackets that held on my GT sideskirts when i couldn't get thema anywhere. They stock old OEM parts that the dealers quit stocking

I have the Cervini's rear bumper cover, and I definitely had to re-use the metal mounting bracket. I also had to do some modification to it to get it to work. Instead of the posts of the bracket coming through the holes in the inside top lip of the Cervini's bumper (like the GT was installed), I had to cut off the lip on the Cervini's piece altogether. I then drilled holes in the top of the bumper (under where the tailights would sit) and down through the top of the bracket. I then used small stainless bolts/nuts to hold them together.

The bumper would not line up without doing this, but I also noticed that ultimate fittiment seemed easier doing it this way. In the end, the thing looks great and nobody knows the difference.

The metal bracket still mounts up to the car using the posts/nuts, they just don't go through the lip in the bumper first.

By the way, CJ Pony parts has a junkyard full of Foxes on-site, and they will often pull off whatever you're looking for and send it to you at a cost (luckily I only live about 40 minutes away).
