I just got a 93 cobra intake manifold (up and low) for my 90 lx vert. I wanted to upgrade the TB while I was doing the swap so I picked up a cheap used “93 cobra 65mm TB”. When I measure the opening that meets up with the intake it looks like 62mm. Is that right or did I get scammed? The price almost seemed too good to be true so maybe it was. Is there any other way to tell if it was actually off of a 93 cobra? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it was a 65mm.
How exactly are you measuring? When it comes to mm, it's not hard to be a few off.

Just with the a ruler and tape. I don’t have anything more accurate. Here’s a picture showing where I took the measurement. I made sure that it was the widest part of the opening except for the notch where the IAC attaches.

Did the '93 Cobra intake actually come off a '93 Cobra?
Highly unlikely.

They sold 1000's of Cobra intakes that were not on any car. They were an item sold through Ford Motorsports (now Ford Racing Products).

Therefore, there is no matching TB.

Thanks. Based on the measurements in the picture, do you know if the throttle body is a 93 cobra (either original or produced later). It’s smaller than I thought it should be.

Get a cheap caliper micrometer, like 2000xp8 said it could be off and your ruler is not straight.

Ok thanks. I’ll head over to harbor freight. Is that the correct place to measure (ID of the intake manifold side)? When the say 65mm, is it actually 65 mm or is it a nominal value like lumber (ie a 2x4 isn’t actually 2”x4”)?

93 Cobra tb should be 65mm

I've got an early 96 explorer TB which is also 65mm, and it measures 66mm at the opening

The actually dimension refers to blade size however. A stock TB will have a 60mm blade. The cobra/explorer will be 65

As recommended I picked up a cheap caliper and took some more accurate measurements. The disc is only 60mm so it looks like I got a bummed deal. Thanks for the help.
