93 mustang start up issues

sometimes i have to floor the gas pedel to get the car to start. 306, 24 lb inj,stock cam. tp set .97,timing 14 degrees. 155 fuel pump&vortech inline. fuel pressure set to stock range. Also have a warm engine smoke out the tailpipes at startup. Pcv is new, no vacuem leakes. Gt 40 intake with 65 mm explorer tb, 75 c&L meter. Plugs are one stage cold set to .30. Stock coil 2 years old. any ideas.

Is it throwing any codes? why are you running the colder plugs?

I had the colder plugs in for nitrous. Took the nitrous off. No codes, No check engine light.

i'm kinda wondering why you have the plugs gapped to .030? Should be .054 or there-about. You should change to the proper plugs for your current setup w/ the proper gap. Might not fix your problem, but should run better.

Anyway, flooring the pedel while cranking cuts the injectors off, so it seems like maybe you have too much fuel. Maybe you're running a little rich? Is your MAF meter calibrated for 24lb injectors?

I had the plug gap at 30 for nitrous. So the nitrous wouldnt blow out the spark. Car has a stock ignition, No msd. MAF is calibrated for 24 lb inj.

If thje IAB (or IAC) fails you will need to press the pedal to get airflow through the engine. Clean the IAB electrical connections, & the 10 pin salt & pepper shaker connections.

I cleaned all the connections on the 10 pins and the Idle air contol( IAC is new) Same thing. I changed plugs to stock heat range too. How can I test to see if Iac is failing? Example....If the car doesnt pop right off you can crank the car till the cows come home, and then as soon as you mash the gas...all the way it will start. Can I test when icrank the car during this issue assuming that I dont floor it to start the car?

flooring it while cranking kills the injector pulse and helps clear a flood condition.

Since you no longer are running the nitrous there is no need for the nitrous/boost gap...that will eliminate one more troubleshooter if you bump that gap back up or replace them. Get the right heat ranged plug and gap them in the lower .050's...

Plugs are set back to stock heat range and gapped to about 54. Timing set down to 12. Cap and rotor good. Fuel pressure set at 38 no vacuem. Issue still exists. The last time I had this problem I put a New Ignition coil on and It didnt do it for a long time. Any thoughts. Any good way to check a coil?

Found that the problem exists in either the distributer or the coil. I am sure replacing these will fix the problem.

Problem was not in the dist or coil rather the ect sensor. Fixed all problems!
