The GT came to me with a vibration that was fairly bad,
and now has gotten MUCH worse. Feels like a foward
U-joint or front tire out of balance. You cannot feel it in
you butt like a rear U-joint or rear tire. It drives like
like a tread is separating on a front tire. All these are
problems I have had in the past with other vehicles, so
it didn't concern me at all.

Well, yesterday I went over a bumpy intersection, the
kind that rattles your teeth, and the vibration became
noticably worse right then and there. It became bad...

That made me think tire separation for sure.

Well, I just got it home from driving around and contemplating.
While it was parked and idling smooth, just for the heck of
it, I goosed the gas. Well the dam thing went right to shaking
right then and there, just as if it was going down the road!
The entire car shook violently, but now the wheels and
driveshaft weren't turning! So it is apparently an engine
vibration, or possibly flexplate/converter, however unlikey.

So, I guess it comes down to crank balancer unless anyone
has any better ideas...

I have owned a great many Fords, but never personally had
a balancer go bad. Have you? Does this description fit?

Thanks for your input.:SNSign:

Our balancers are known for going bad. There's a rubber ring in the balancer that slips out. Look behind the balancer and see if anything is poking out - you'll likely see some rubber. The outer ring could have just shifted as well. Check your timing - if it's not around 10* - 14*, the ring has slipped.

I have never had one go bad either, but have heard alot of stories on it happening to other people. Have you checked the motor mounts?

im on my 3rd balancer in 5 years on my car. mine would mainly vibrate at idle. you can check the balancer and see if the rubber damper is coming out or if the weight is on crooked

Could very well be the balancer, although the way you said it got worse when you hit a bump leads me to think torn motor mounts. See picture for my expierence with a bad balancer that seperated at high speed!

I have had torn engine mounts before, and sure the engine would move,
but to shake the car violently? No.

Last time i had a torn mount, i thought the world as going to come to an end, the engine was moving so much the intake manifold was hitting the strut bar

I hope you are right.
I'd much prefer that to an exploding dampner.

i just replaced my dizzy. and when timing the motor i noticed the HB wobbling. i guess the vibs hadn't gotten that bad yet. the HB was off about 1/8" from one side to the other. and my timing marks were off too.
