I have a 94 mustang gt with a automatic transmission. I did little mods so I went out and ran it kind of hard to see the sotp change, well now my transmission is stuck in drive. If it is in park i can't rev it over 2000 rpm cause it boggs down like powerbraking. When I put it in reverse it just sits there bogged down, when in neutral it's first gear. But it drives fine in drive as long as i have the over drive turned off. Can you please tell me what is wrong here???

MLPS = Manual Lever Position Switch

Only because I know it'll be his next question :)

It's the black box on the driver side of the trans. with a long plug. Also, like I said, check to make sure the linkage is still tight on the shift lever. There's a little nut that holds it on.

I spent all day yesterday and nothing worked. The linkage is fine and the MLSP thing seems to be great. I even took the shift cable off and manually put it in park. I started up my car and still acts like it wants to go forward in park. Is there a way that I could have fryed the clutches and bands? Is there anyone who lives in ohio and has a tranny for my 94 5.0 and wants to sell it let me know... I am more then happy to travel to pick it up!!!

not quit sure what the spec values are. I called a local garage and they told me which pins to plug my meter into. Then all theey said is that if it's working than park would have the highest reading and i would be a lower number each gear I went down on the shifter. 1st gear was the lowest number ans park was the highest. How do I find the "SPEC" amount, and how far off spec can it be and still work correctly?? I'll check it again

There is also an adjustment procedure to be followed. Here's the basic setup.
!. Put the shift lever in the Drive position. Make sure the shift lever is positioned against the rear Drive stop.
2. Loosen the shift cable-to-manual lever retaining nut. (Car will have to be raised for access)
3. Move the manual lever to the Drive position by moving the lever all the way forward until it stops, then pulling it back three detent positions.
4. With both the shift lever and manual lever now in the Drive positions, tighten the shift cable-to-manual adjusting nut securely.
5. Check operation of the tranny in each shift lever position.

The ohm readings between terminal 7 and 6 should be.
Park 3770-4607
Reverse 1304-1593
Neutral 660-807
Drive 361-442
Second 190-232
First 78-95

Hey I went out yesterday and ohmed out the MLPS. It speced out good, but I called advanced auto and they had one for 20.00. so I put a new one in and still won't work. So I found a fully remanufactured one for 800.00. So I guess thats a good way to go.

At first I read your message to say that you has a remanufactured MLPS for $800. Ouch! Of course you meant a remanufactured tranny. A bit of warning for you: most rebuilt trannys do not last as long as the originals from Ford. I don't know if it's because tranny shops re-use worn parts, they rebuild them wrong or deliberately make mistakes so you have to rebuild it again. But many folks here have had to rebuild their trannys again after a few years. You might want to look into performance transmissions if you can afford one.
