95 Cobra 5.0 owner - Exhaust help?

Go for FRPP Shorty headers, Off-Road H-pipe, Magnaflow cat back, Pro-m or C&L (24lbs at least since you got the nice cobra). mass air, FRPP 65mm throttle body, FRPP or trickflow heads, stage 2 cam or E-cam 1.6 RR's.
If you live in LV or AZ, DO NOT GET aftermarket PULLEYS due to high temp in these areas. might over heat your car.

Far as intake i like the stock cobra the best. Edel might flow little better but you can't beat the looks of the stock cobra.

These are what i have done far as breathing. and sounds VERY nice. I had flow master and x-pipe and didn't like it so much so i sold them on e-bay. LOL, I got pair of SLP loudmouth 1 muffler but it's just sitting in my room. i am scared to put them on since they are so freaking loud!

If you can stand the famous Bassani "Death" rattle on X-pipes then go fo it LOL. Far as long tube headers. they are killer on a track but not so on a street and pain in the A** to install. Think twice and do it right. I went back and forth to figure out what i like but at least you learn from it.

And try to do everything yourself! The dealership will rape you on labor. THAT'S WHY I HAD TO LEARN. LOL

And Give it the "whack in the back" by getting new gears. Go for either 3:73's or 4:10's. I got 4:10's and it's okay...but 3:73 would be perfect for street.

I would do the gears FIRST. everything else later.

My gain from stock to shorties was seriously like 5hp and 5tq, Just not worth the effort in my opinion. I too read that the shorties made a night and day difference, one that you could feel, and was sooooo dissapointed; The only thing I was happy about was the added sound. This is just my opinion, others will tell you differently, do yourself a favor and talk to some engine builders, or ask a couple guy's here (killercanary, Hissin, Grady) just to name a few that have experience and dyno sheets to support their opinions.

I'm curious everyone keeps saying that shorty headers are not worth the gain on a stock car, but with the cobra having gt40 heads and intake factory does it not benifit more from the extra flow than a stock gt would. The reason I want to know is that I also have a stock 95 cobra and was planning shorty's and O/R X pipe on my car.

white94cobra how much did you gain from stock with shorty's.

That's what I was wanting to know thanks. I would think that most people would probly see similar results to you. Honestly after hearing that I may put this off a little longer and go ahead with the long tubes and a Dr. gas off road X pipe since I live in AL. My only worry was ground clearance with the long tubes.

i have a jegs offroad x pipe and flowmasters. that white mustang in the video sounded super mean. the dr gas x-pipe is definatly the way to go. im savin up for long tubes a dr gas x-pipe and i like the sound of the spintechs. but for now the current setup gets the job done.

Here is my take on header choice :)

Peak power between shortys and LT's is not all that different

Its low and mid range that LT's can give you noticeable gains

My opinion is all about making power ;)
sooooooo
The other comments about scraping them if lowered
and
Sound preference would be up to you :D

One last thought on shortys :)

I'd not do equal length ... the gain if any is gonna be small over regulars

The hassle of install and other issues I've seen those who ran them
post about over the years ... I just can't see how they would be
worth it
