What should I expect against a stock 98 Cobra convertible. The only mod he has is Roush side pipes. The rest is bone stock. My mods are in my sig. Give me some opinions. My friend's dad has wanted to race me for like a year now. I'm finally going to be back in my hometown to do it!!!

You have the torque advantage. Get out the hole quick or it could be a good race. I think it's going to come down to who can drive better.

You should beat him out of the hole because of those gears, and his car is heavy. I think the '98 had IRS, so that is another reason you will take the early lead.

Those side pipes do nothing for performance.

It will all be decided by how well your intake and cam combination is working and the transmissions.

If it's T5 vs T45, you will probably win, but he will be gaining on you at the end. If he has an automatic and you have a T5, you should win easily. If it's two automatics, I don't know.

like joe said, make sure launch good and don't spin too much. make sure you nail your shifts and you should take him. the cobras have really nice top ends and pull all the way to 7grand. it will come down to the end. let us know the outcome.

99 cobras were the first with IRS, and all cobras have manual transmissions

What? WIth your mods you whould work him. Pretty hard. 98 cobras dont have IRS. But they do only have 3.27s and ****ty ass low end. I think u should get a car or two on him.

Sorry about that....they're both stickshift cars. Mine's got a new centerforce dual friction clutch. His whole car is pretty much cherry. The car's got like 9,000 miles on it, but he definately knows how to drive it!

Im betting on the snake! if he can drive it, not off the line but he could very well take you top end, especially if he can drive! Good look, bet it will be a great race

The longer you race, the worse it will get for you, your best bet is to jump him and shut down at 100 or so, anything past that and you will see what a 32V V8 is made of.

I recently races a 96-98 vert both of us had the tops down and a passenger....from 30-90 it was either dead even or me winning...but then once we got above 90 his car stated to slip by me to the point were at 120ish he had a car on me....overdrive dosn't work well for racing

Nope, GT bumpers say GT on them. A few model years of Cobra (94/95, 99 that I know of) just said "Mustang" on the bumper, ala V6.

As for the race -- my stock '98 Cobra coupe was about dead even with my buddy's '95 GT (again, stock) up to almost 60 mph because of the torque difference. After that the Cobra walked him bad. Any mods and the GT will do alright at low speeds.

No Cobras pre-98 had the GT bumper, but in 94-95 they did have the V6 bumper that just read MUSTANG.

I'm not sure about the 99+ Cobras, cause I think for one or two years all Mustangs (V6, V8, Cobra) had the same bumper.

I can't speak for the track but on the freeway my cobra has its hands full with The Newer Cobras. Most the track would be covered in the higher rpm range, so I think you better drive his pants off in order to beat or hang with him. Hopefully you don't drag with your heavy JL box and everything.

eh, I'm not worried about the JL box, it's really small and I've removed the spare and jack, so that kind of evens things out. Also, I see that the cobras pull hard to about 7 grand. With the cam and RPM intake I pull hard to 6100 or so. Should I try running it out a little further, or keep shifting right in that area?
