In A Race, Both cars are bone stock. The mustang is a covertible whereas the camaro is a coupe. who would win? reasons why?

What do you guys think are the pro's and con's of the matchup?

well...not sure, but the gt would be a little heavier being a convertible....i watched pinks last night and they had a 1988 mustang (500hp)vs 1989 firebird (600hp)(practically camaro)....the mustang spanked him until his motor blew up and caught on fire....what kind of tires are on both cars???

Camaro will win. 275 HP, probably a 3.23 or 3.42 rear end from the factory, lighter, etc. The convertible Mustang is too heavy with only 215 HP and if it's yours with the AODE, the Camaro will have you by quite a bit. There's probably a full second difference in the 1/4 mile between the two.

Stock versus stock, the camaro will win by a substantial margin.

Especially comparing a Mustang auto to a Camaro auto... No comparison, lol.

even though the LT1 is not the motor the LS1 is, it would still beat a stock 302 handily. 5.7L vs. only 5.0L

Don't underestimate the "LT Fun." Stang loses by quite a bit.

Camaro will blow it away hands down. It will pull hard thru 125MPH. They are practically the same weight within 25 pounds.

haha I was in this exact scenario a few months ago, except mine's a 5spd. My buddy Joe has a stock '95 Z28 auto. Only mods are a 2300 stall converter, and a rebuilt tranny with a shift kit and corvette internals ( ). From a 30mph roll, we were neck-and-neck all the way up to 100mph when we both let off (this was done on an open 4-lane highway at night, no traffic). I was quite surprised I was able to stay with him, as all I've got done to the car to make it faster are the 3.73's. Those cars are surprisingly heavy, like Pokageek said, I'm pretty sure his car slighly outweighs mine by a small amount.

We're planning to head to the track next summer after I do some spring-time upgrades, and he gets a new paint job . I'm anxious to see what the outcome will be.

I had a 94 LT1 auto. Ran 14.0 stock and 13.5 with cai and headers. My mustang is just starting to feel fast. I don't know why but mine blew away most other z28's. I got in a 95 SS that felt slow as hell.

There was no SS in 1995. 1996-2002 only .... excluding the early 70's and prior.

I knew someone was going to get technical. It was an SS. Unbelievably slow too. It didn't shift past 5200. Weird.
