Purchased a 1996 mustang gt last year that the previous owner let sit for 3 years in his grandmas yard. 95,807 original miles. Put new plugs, wires, ignition coils, fuel pump, fuel filter, IAC, MAF, Throttle position sensor, Fuel regulator, battery, cleaned the injectors, oil change, trans fluid flush, coolant flush, and brakes. Was cleaning the inside cause the guy left a can of soda inside that exploded everywhere. Got on the ignition cylinder so i took the dash cover off and removed the ignition cylinder to clean it. went to put it back together and broke the solder on the ribbon for the PATS engine immobilizer. Replaced that and now the one key i had wont work since its not programed to it now. Ive tried all the tricks ive seen in forums, youtube, and even called the dealership with no luck. Was told i could get a tune that can remove Pats but cant find any online to get emailed to me for my SCT tuner. Anyone got any ideas or recommendations?

Have you called SCT?

I would call another dealership too. They should be able to order you new keys then reprogram the PATS module to accept them.

Haven’t been able to call SCT yet cause of my work schedule they aren’t available when I get off or before I go in. Sent a email but haven’t heard back after about 2 weeks. Also I now have 3 keys for the car and the dealerships around me are ranging from $500-$1500 to flash the ecm and reprogram the keys to the module.

Yeah I was gonna try that but gotta get a laptop to do it or run a 75ft usb to obd2 cable from my pc to the car. But I’ve got a sct livewire from my 04 f350 that I can unmarry and use to upload a tune or something to delete the pats system from the stock tune

Yeah the only solutions I’ve found that I ain’t tried require a tune, a 96 Vic ecm, or a laptop. Surprisingly all my friends don’t have a laptop except 1 and he’s 3 hrs away from me now bc he decided to move.

Will the car crank but not start or no crank?
With the key in the on position (starter not engaged) does the anti theft light blink or stay steady?

I was thinking that you, of all people, would have some magic for something like this then it hit me.

Call a mobile locksmith, they should be able to program a key cheaper than going to a steelership, thats before towing, look into that forscan thing, if your anti theft is stock it's a 'chip' key, like the second gen American anti theft, the first gen being a pulled coil wire, I'm old what can I say
Let us know what works out.

Yeah it’s a chip key. The only mobile locksmith I have around me (I have a few but most are older and don’t do programming just key cutting) said it’ll be 2 weeks before he can come out as he’s a 1 man company and will be on honeymoon for the next 2 weeks. That’s why I was looking at a email tune just to delete the PATS from the stock tune.

That method doesn't work on '96 cars. It's only 99-04.

96-97 cars have a much simpler process to program keys, but I don't have the method handy. Let me dig.

There's really not much you can do with ForScan on a 1996 Mustang, so don't go crazy trying to set it up. Late 1998 Mustangs started going to module-based subsystems and that's where ForScan is much more useful

Here's the method. I cannot confirm that this works however, and my usually disclaimer is that this might leave you with no keys to start the vehicle. However it seems pretty simple.

You'll need to grab a compatble chip key (I recommend Strattec brand keys) and cut it to match. Then follow these steps

I’ve tried this method as well and it didn’t work. I’ve went through about 40 forums so far and watched about 20 videos at least on YouTube. None of the methods have worked. I even got another immobilizer thinking the first one I got was bad and still no luck. That’s why I’ve resorted to trying a tune or replacing the ecm with a 96 crown vice since they didn’t get PATS until late 97.

Did you use a new unprogramed key in the above instuctions?
I've done this many times with Fords of this model.

I tried it with my old key and both freshly cut unprogrammed keys.

Are you sure you don't have a different issue?
Tried starting fluid?
Can you post a vid of what the 'anti-theft' light does when you turn the original key to the on position?

Yeah I can when I get home. When I tried starting fluid it would crank and start but then shut off almost immediately. But I have spark on all 8 plugs, I’ve checked timing, obd2 reader finds no codes, I hear fuel pump prime. The only thing that’s changed since last time I had it running was the engine immobilizer module around the ignition cylinder.

I’m going to try this again. Is this process supposed to be done with the old key or one of the brand new unprogrammed keys?
