96 v6 mustang, why is my car speed limited

Hi i am from the U.K and have a 96 3.8 Mustang, i took it out on an empty road tonight to see what speed it could do.
As i approached 110 mph the car hit what seemed to be a rev limiter, is this normal or do i have an ex-rental car that is limited for some reason, if anybody know's about this is there a way of taking the limiter off.

It's the governor, it limits the speed based on RPMs in a certian gear. About 3500-4000 rpms I believe it is set to, but the speed varies on gear ratios. Tuners and chips can take the program out of the memory or override it, at which you could take it further.

Listen to TMX he knows what he's talking about. Your best bet would be to get a diablosport predator and with it you'll be able to make it quicker and turn off the governor. I bet you don't get too many stangs in London. Welcome to the board.

Thanks for the help, and the are more Stang then you think in London as they sell them new through Main dealer's

Well you're question was already basicly answered but the reason why it's there is because of the tires your stang came with stock. Ford doesn't want to be at fault when some DA tries going 130 on a highway and his crappy stock tires give.
