Alright, so the recall is the parking brake under the car hitting the driveshaft if you lower you car, I have Eibach springs and tokico struts, when i floor it with people in the back seat it makes a loud grinding noise. . . . look at the driveshaft and i have a groove in it all the way around, anyway my question is has anyone fixed this on their own? I dont wanna take this to the dealer for the free recall cuz they dick you around. . . how do i fix this myself

OK, this post is from loooooong ago, but I have the exact same problem. I was actually searching for a fix for a buzzing ebrake button (any advice on that would be welcomed, too). I did not know about the ebrake recall, so I guess I need to get that done. However, my big problem is I lowered my car (Vogtland springs, Tokico shocks/struts) and now I am getting the same grinding when I have several people in my car an I floor it, or even if I am flooring it and I hit a bump. Anyone know how to fix this? Will the recall do it? Thanks.

Isn't a recall a recall, regardless of warantee? The parking brake button has always rattled, so that is not related to the lowering of the car.

Ford would not recall for a rattleing e-brake button. It would most likely be covered under warrenty if it still has one. They would only recall for safety or emissions at this point....and likly only for safety.

It's all a moot discussion, since the car is 7 years old, the warrenty period is over and the car is modifed. I'll bet money Ford's position is it's out of warrenty and you have modified the car. Any problems are yours to fix.

What I am saying is that there was a recall in 2001 or so for malfunctioning ebrakes that included 1998 GTs. I was never notified by Ford, so didn't get it done. I doubt it would fix either problem - I just need to get it done so my ebrake doesn't fail if I park on a hill and forget to leave it in gear.

The driveshaft rubbing the ebrake mount is another matter. I just need to find out what needs to be done to fix it so I can do it.

The buzzing ebrake button is just an annoyance that I hope someone has an easy fix for.
