i think the subaru may actually sell today for only 15,000 but i really want a mustang again so i'm prob gonna do it.

should i get a 98 for around 15k and keep the $4,000 i am left with to mod it or buy an 01 and not really have cash to mod it and leave that 4k as a down payment??? i really like the 01, its a little quicker, better seats and potential. but the 98 would be cheaper and less for insurance and i could do long tubes, o/r H, magnapacks, 4.30 gears, maybe a saleen front bumper. what do you think is a better idea? what i really want is a 99-01 Saleen S281 SC but i cant find any near me and for $23,000 or less.

I would go with the 98. With the left over money you could get an X-PIPE and a Catback , full Intake , pullies , springs , shocks , struts, CC plates, upper/lower control arms, subframe connectors, gears, and still have some money left over. Also The 98 has a solid axle. With the left over money plus saving a little more on top of that you could buy some 03 Cobra/Mach 1 heads and a 01 cobra intake to match for roughly $1500. I saw the heads and intake pretty cheap in KarKraft.com

Sounds good... i'd be happy with high 12's.

if i got those heads, maybe even low 12's. All i know is that I will be a lot more careful driving a mustang after the last one

While the '98 and the '01 are both great cars, I guess if I were in your shoes I would choose the '98 because modding these cars is a great hobby!

I wouldn't just look at the 98's, but look at the 96's and 97's too...they are all basically the same performance wise and you might be able to save a little with an earlier year and still get the same car...

i found a black on tan 98 just like my 96 for 16900 and i asked the guy to go down to 16k. it's at a dealership and has 37k miles. looks mint from the pics. im gonna go check it out today, maybe make a deposit. how much cash would you say it would cost to do long tubes, o/r H, magnapacks, short shifter 4.30 gears + installation.

check out veracka motors in brockton,ma they sometimes have svts in and you can use their website for an idea on price. I know they had a yellow 01 hardtop with only 6k and the plastic still on the carpets for 21K a while ago have a 99 vert for 18K right now. Call them as their web site is usually behind on their inventory

DON'T RUSH

you will find the car you are looking for 24 hours after compromising on a car you think is an OK deal, it always seems to happen

Good luck

Just to let you know an off road mid pipe and mangapacks will be pretty dam loud. I have a catted Xpipe and magnaflow cat back and it sounds perfect, but sound is all a personnel perference. Just make sure you don't have neighbors who might get pissed off or cops that might pull you over and check for cats. Personnel I would go with the regular magnaflow mufflers. Also if you put the same exhaust mods on a GT and Cobra the Cobra will be louder due to a Much hiigher volume of air it flows. My Cobra is louder than my friends 02GT and he got all the same performance boltons that I due.Good luck and don't rush you are bound to find a Cobra at a good price if you keep looking.

get this....
i go to look at the cobra and my mom tells me my uncle is best friends with the owner of the place... so they said if i traded my car in theyd give me 16k and i wouldnt have to pay taxes. id only get 15k or so if i sold it privately. the cars mint. im pickin it up tomorrow. only thing is no extra cash for mods. maybe i'll take out a 1 or 2k loan. i prob have enough to do exhaust or gears. i'll get some pics sometime soon. i just want my snake in the grill. letters on the back, shifter and tints right away. ohhhh i cant waittttttttt . im reunited.
