A side note to my last post I'm now 27 still in NJ and full coverage on my 03 GT convertible is still $220 a month.
Is that due to your driving record? Im 28 and full coverage for mine is $86 a month for full coverage

To the OP.
Very simply put... No a Mustang GT should not be your first car. Even if you feel you are responsible, friends make friends do dumb things. When i bought my Mustang last year at 20 I was only a decent driver (coming out of a ranger). My friend who helped me buy the car took me up to Pamona to some empty roads and lots, and we went through 2 tanks of gas as he taught me how to control the car when it gets out of control. He wanted me to be able to remain in control of the vehicle if ever I lost it in a turn or did something stupid. A car like a mustang should not be in the hands of an inexperienced driver. You should get a practical and reliable car and earn your horsepower.
The insurance legally has to be in my parents name anyways because I'm under 18.My buddies first car was a 2000 GT. Got it when he was 15, before he had his license. Had some good times sneaking out in it during the day when his parents were gone. No license either. lol.
Anyways, Insurance will kill you unless you have it in your parents name. I say do it. My Mustang, is technically my second car, but its the first one ive bought with my money. Got it at 18 (now 21) and am very glad I did. I love it. Dont think I could ever sell the thing now that its paid off.
btw.. Im on my moms insurance, Im a "secondary" driver. I pay $90 a month for full insurance a month. Dont know how but thats what she says it cost .
Okay, thanks. And yeah, tires are fairly expensive but I've heard they're a good investment.Ya i got my mustang when i was 18, that was 6 years ago. If your going to get one make sure your not the type who will speed. These cars can go fast really easily and you can get your self in trouble. Also if you will be in snow conditons SNOW TIRES are a must. Even with them on you must drive very carefully, these mustangs are very light in the rear with RWD and lots of torque you can get in trouble easily. I had some bad all seasons one winter and i could hardly get the car to move when in more then 4 inches of snow. Other then that they are great DD cars i find, sound amazing i suggest magna packs if you want a nice loud car but thats just my taste. They also get great fuel econ on the highway, my car has just over 100k miles on it and it got 28 MPG in mountain driving on my last road trip. City econ not so good, might just be my heavy foot. I get like 14 city lol.
ya its either you get another car for winter or you get snow tires.Okay, thanks. And yeah, tires are fairly expensive but I've heard they're a good investment.
It might have to do with different states Nightfire. Im in NY and I pay close to 250 for full coverage ouch. Gas is almost 4.00$ a gallon here too.
I got a 2000 gt for my first car this summer. I am 18, but I just got my license last year. Insurance isn't bad for me (under $100) and I didn't have any problems learning how to drive in it. I was actually expecting more power than what it has when I bought it, but it still has plenty. I can't say I've done anything overly crazy with the car, occasionally I'll jack rabbit after a stop, but I always try and stay under the speed limit. The back seat is very small, so the car isn't good on dates haha, but other than that its been a fun reliable DD for me.

Yea NJ pretty much sucks, but I grew up here and my family is here.....womp womp....Jeeze. Gotta be NJ. I pay $290 a month with two liability, and four full coverage cars.
From what i remember from my old dating years is you and your date both end up in the back seat at the end of the night. Yes i also agree there is not much room for that, but you make room. You put your date in the back seat?
