99+ brakes on a 94 GT?

I was at a local AutoX this weekend, and one guy there had 99+GT front calipers on his 95GT. Are the 99+ calipers that much better? He said they swap right in, and even used the stock brake lines. This could be a very cheap alternative to getting a Baer 2-piston PBR caliper settup. Anyone else done this swap? What are your thoughts?

Im in the process of doing it. A few people on here have done it, Killer and
Slow5.0, and it saves a few pounds off teh front of your car. Im swapping ss/lines, ebc pads and the pbr calipers at the same time along with a linelock and new rotors. Good bang for the buck factor.

umm...I did the math...

60mm single = 2827mm^2
40mm dual = 2513mm^2

And how do they save wieght? arent they bigger? different material or something?

The 99+ calipers are aluminum rather than the steel of the stockers.

The advantage really isn't in the extra area of the 2-piston units but moreso in the contact area of the pistons to the pad and the pads to the rotor. The 2-piston calipers spread that load more evenly which is very good for breaking and even pad wear. A slightly smaller diameter MC will make up for the loss in clamping load with the 99+ calipers if you really need it or want it.

Haha, Scot with one t from TCS. I am Outrun on there.

Anyways, you need to grind some material off of the 94-98 spindle to accomodate the caliper and bracket. Not sure about the brake lines though, as I did a 5 lug conversion on my 86. Plus as started, the dual pot 99-04 calipers are made of aluminum as opposed to steel on the 94-98's. You save 10-15 pounds of unsprung weight off of the front end, which in my opinion any weight ssavings with better braking is a definate plus. I got mine from www.car-part.com I paid 50 bucks for two 99 calipers. I cannot compare the 94-98 brakes to the dual pots because I was using the weak ass 10 inch brakes on my 86. Good luck!

If I was you Scot, I'd just can the front brakes and buy the 94-04 13" front Cobra Brakes. Much bettah stopping power.

I was considering the Cobra brakes, but I'm not sure if they would fit behind my wheels. They are 17" rims, but the spokes are VERY close to the stock calipers. hmmm..I wonder if Baer would be nice enough to send me the Autocad drawing of their 2 piston PBR calipers

The wheels you have. Are they stock on some mustangs or an aftermarket company? If they are the same offset as any 17" rim from 94-04 not including the OO R they will fit. Both the Dual pot and 13" upgrade.

Wheels are from American Racing. I looked on Baer's site, and they have pics of cars with the same wheels as mine, with the 2 piston calipers, but the link to their fitment templates is not working correctly. I think they should work though, since I have seen a Cobra or two with AR Torq Thrust II rims like mine.

How much lighter are the 99-04 brakes than the 94-98's? Somebody has to have actually weighed them.

The LT1 guys upgrade to LS1 brakes which have PBR Calipers which is what the 99-04 Mustangs have I think and they are 5 pounds lighter on each side.

Scot I have the same setup as you (TTII's) and the calipers are VERY close, as you said. I'd also like to upgrade the calipers, but only if they fit under 16' wheels. Does anyone know if the 99+ PBR calipers will work under stock waffles?

1999-2004 V6 and GT's came with the same front brakes. Yes they will fit with 16" wheels. Not sure about 15" wheels though.
