99 GT Cruise install

Well, I did not expect my cruice control issue to become a venue for mileage/odometer tampering. Anyway....I just wanted to let those that did stay on topic of my cruise control, that I now have
operational cruice control in my 99 GT. I bought the last piece of the puzzle, the cruise deactivation switch from my ford dealer and installed it last night and tested it and it works aok.....Special thanks to

Ok here's a quick recap.... 99 GT w/Automatic transmission that came without cruise control.

Check to see if your car is prewired. Need to look behind the driver side fender splash shield. You're looking for a black 10 pin connector with a jumper plug. (this is so the horn circuit will work).

The 3 things to buy is
1. Steering wheel with the cruise control switches.
2. Cruise control servo with bracket and cable
3. Cruise deactivation switch (motorcraft PN: SW5954)


After disconnecting the battery and wait 10 minutes before messing with the airbag....

While waiting for the 10 minutes for the airbag circuit to dissapate power I did all the mechanical hook ups 1st.

I mounted the servo controller to the firewall, remove the jumper from the 10 pin connector and then plug into the controller. Route the cable thru to the engine bay and connect to the throttle lever, there will be mounting hole in the throttle bracket for the cruise cable.

Then I did all the inside work. Remove the airbag and disconnect the horn switches. Before removing the steering wheel with a steering wheel puller I marked the steering wheel shaft for proper orientation.

With the steering wheel out of the way, I installed the deactivation switch to
brake pedal assembly and plug in the switch to the 2pin connector that was just hanging around needing a home.

Installed the new steering wheel paying close attention to keep proper orientation to the shaft. Torque the steering wheel bolt to 28 ft/lbs.
Reconnect the airbag and the switch plug. Reinstall the airbag to the steering wheel.

***Check for gap between steering wheel and airbag. My new steering wheel had too large a gap so I had to adjust the horn switches lower to make sure it all looked correct. ***

Re-connect the battery. You now have factory cruise control in your Stang!!!

I want to buy and install the switches that I have jumpered. Nancygrl identified a "cruise deactivation switch" (motorcraft PN: SW5954). From pictures of SW5954, it looks like it mates with connector C261 in my attachment. If it mates with C261, my manual is calling it the "brake pressure switch". Nancygrl said that it attached to the brake pedal.

The other switch attaches to connector C260. My manual calls it the "deactivator switch". I assume that it connects to the clutch pedal since the auto trans has a jumper from the factory. I can't find any info on this switch. It plugs into a gray connector with two light green wires. The connector is mounted above the steering shaft, near the clutch quadrant (see picture attachment). Would a kind soul show me a picture, describe it, or give me a PN?

My install was/is for an automatic transmission. Yours is for a manual. I know on my 2000 escort ZX2 that's a 5spd there are 2 switches, one for the brake pedal and one for the clutch pedal. Here is a picture of the deactivation switch. It may or may not be the same for a manual 'stang. I got mine from my local Ford dealer....You might want to check with your Ford parts guys as to which switch(s) you need. This is the switch I installed.
