A/C Compressor and Fan ??

Well, I finally got the last bolt off and was able to remove the fan and shroud
from my 1991 LX 5.0 convertible. I have a few questions regarding the installation:

1. I removed the old A/C compressor and want to put a new one on. Does the A/C compressor go on first and then the bracket with 10 holes in it? Or does the bracket go on first and then the A/C compressor?

2 My fan has mutiple cracks on it. Is it possible to try and fix the cracks with JB Weld? (I am unemployed right now and money is tight).

3. Can I paint the fan with spray paint or will it come off because of the speed of the fan?

Thanks in advance.

I'll try to answer your questions in order.

1) Bolt the bracket on first then bolt the compressor to the bracket.

2) Well it really depends on how bad it is cracked. JB weld is worth a shot. It couldn't hurt at this point.

3) Never heard of anyone painting a stock fan but I suppose it will work as long as you use a paint that is made for plastic.

Good Luck.

I might steer clear of JB weld because: it could toss the fan further out of balance, which will wear the water pump bearings prematurely. Plus if a piece of fan actually breaks loose, it can do some damage.

When funds allow, a metal replacement works pretty well (about 30-40 bucks). I would send my old stocker to you but it's cracked.

Good luck.

Hmmm. Didn't think of it flying off and possibly taking out the radiator.

Good one JT.
