A/C concern

After replying to another thread, I started thinking. Here is my situation. I got my stang back in 05. Car only had 16K and was bone stock down to the Goodyear tires.
My A/C has never been charged. Still running R-12. I work at an automotive repair facility that does AC work. However none of our techs still have gauges nor do we have R-12. I can brag that AC is still blowing cold and it is still original including the freon, but truth of the matter is now that I have posted this Karma is going to hit me next summer something is going to happen to the system:shrug::nonono: . I would hate to convert it to R134, wish I could find someone locally that still has the right equipment and the R-12 cans to give it a shot if needed next summer. I say that every summer, but it continues to blow cold :nice: . I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and convert it when something goes wrong.

You can still find the R-12...I just bought a couple cans awhile back. I need to totally charge my system back up and did not want to convert to the 134a. I think it was even cheaper than the 134a at I think $11 bucks a can from what I remember. Look on Craigslist, that is where I found it here.

It is illegal for a company to sell any refrigerant other than R134 to a person who does not have an EPA 608 or 609 certification. However you may be able to find the R12 you need on eBay, along with the gauges. I have a set of R12 gauges that I use with both R12 and R134, but I have to flush the hoses and charging manifold every time I use them.

Having said that, there is a company on eBay that sells a Freeze12 kit that is easy enough to install as long as you still have pressure in the system. Three cans of Freeze 12 and a charging adapter hose, runs from $40-$60 depending on how the market runs. I have used the Freeze12 and have not had any problems with a system that is part original R12 and Freeze12.

Thanks for the info. Will have to look into that when the time comes to throw a charge on it. Again though with this system not ever getting a charge I think that when something does fail it's gonna be major. So may do the convert anyway.
