A/C condensation drips on exhaust.. Would that casue it to crack over time?

I got my turn downs, and it had an exhaust leak. It was there before, just not as bad. I told the muffler shop to look at it while I was at work, they said that the A/C drips on it, which I know. But would this cause it to crack over time?


Second question.

X-pipe or H-pipe?
What are the differences besides the obvious shapes?
Where are the best ones? And what do you think about running a new H-pipe with no cats of mufflers? Obnoxiously loud, so I know I would love the sound, but power wise? I know I would lose power, but how much compared to the stock exhaust minus the muffs?

I believe in the theory behind the H pipe in that it sucks the gasses out, whereas the X pipe evens the flow, but doesn't suck the gasses out. However, a lot of people prefer the X pipe sound, and also say that the X will make more power. I think the H pipe is for NA and the X is for Forced.

I wouldn't sweat the AC drip. Otherwise, people that live in Seattle would constantly have cracked exhausts.

But in one specific place, over and over. even the exhaust pipe will give to the chinese torture method

Maybe it might cause excessive oxidation in that area, but I doubt it would actually cause a problem.

My ac drips right on the collector of my lt's. Makes quite the racket when I kill it and walk away in the summer

I asked the very same Q as yours several years ago and everybody then said don't worry about it.

Mine is. I hear that noise all the time though. I knew what it was. But what it all boils down to is that my exhaust IS cracked and I need a new x or h-pipe.
I guess Ill order it next paycheck.

I dont know a lot about metallurgy but that is a little unusual AFAIK (water hitting a hot pipe is not a big deal in the world of metal). Is it weldable?

Like what some of the guys were getting at, you could make a little discharge tray to carry the water away from the pipe. That OEM discharge tube is there by-design for just the purpose it performs however. If Ford foresaw an issue (and every other car maker out there - most are oriented in a similar fashion), you'd think they'd have run a remote discharge tube.

The shop said it could be welded but they would have to take the H-pipe out to get to it. So I think Ill just get a new h-pipe.

Just got my X pipe and i love it, i highly recommend, and felt a nice lil hp increase on my cobra, the power doesn't hit a brick wall at 4500-5k rpms like it used too, but thats probably because of my gt40heads/intake. those with e7 heads,and stock intake may not feel as good of gains is my belief. Cant speak on behalf of no mufflers, from what i hear people say it doesn't sound to great. Id probably atleast run a bullit style or magnapack style race muffler

When you say race muffler, isnt that a fart can type deal? If it is then no fing way.

these are the ultraflows on summits site, magnapacks are also similiar design, i believe the SLP loudmouth uses this type of muffler design as well. I believe these muffle the sound minimally while allowing flow. summit has those listed 35 bux a piece. im just suggesting as imo straight pipes will sound loud and obnoxious like the fart can u seem to be describing. from the clips ive seen of 5.0s with straight pipes i havent been to impressed, to each is own tho

That sounds nothing like a ricer. I have straight pies right now. I put turndowns on tuesday, and they are louder than my side pipes. I inda like the side pipes more though. They "pop" more. They have more tone I guess you would say. And IMO the little amount of resistance that those mufflers would give just isnt worth $70 to me. I love obnoxiously loud exhaust. I heard a '94 (I think) F-150 with no cats or mufflers and I loved it. It was VERY loud, but thats what I like. But since it wasnt an HO it will sound a little different but not much.

I believe Ford has a SSM or TSB about this. So, in short it is possible for it to crack due to the water, but many cars drip AWAY from the exhaust. Some metals are more suceptable though. But a deflector can be "engineered" by you if it becomes bothersome. Made out of stainless of aluminum.

Exactly what I was going to say, I've seen it crack manifolds on v6's more. (seen it happen to two cars I know of personally)

On my moms v6 the water drops RIGHT into the middle of the collector this is where the ones I've seen crack/break at. If it drops into a flat spot I would be more concerned then a round spot where it will splash off more.
