A couple of days ago, the A/C stopped blowing cold. I changed the low pressure switch and it worked for 2 days. This morning it was fine, then this afternoon, hot again. I jumped across the plug to bypass the switch, but this time the compressor didn't come on. To top it off the clip on the plug has broken off, so I will have to find another one to graft in once I figure out the problem. I'm starting to think that the compressor clutch might be out possibly. I was changed about 5 yrs ago to the electromechanical one, not the rubber bushing one.

Any suggestions where to start troubleshooting? If I don't figure it out by Monday, I have an appointment to take it in. It still has R-12 and was cold after I changed the low pressure swith , but then hot again.

Thanks in advance.:flag:

Anthony, do you have a means of seeing pressures? Seeing both is great but just low side pressure would be nice (read: minimal)

I would test your in and out voltage at the LPS. If the switch doesnt close, there can be [another] bad switch or more likely, low system charge (see the importance of the above paragraph).
If the switch is ok and closes when the AC is on, I would move on to the next paragraph.

I'm not sure how your WOT (Wide Open Throttle) relay situation is like (you have something akin to a CCRM as I recall, and it might be in there). On fox III's (a separate WOT relay housed under the MAF) and 94-95's (WOT housed in the CCRM), both can be problematic. On foxes, the wires vulcanize badly, which can result in a lack of continuity, or a relay which engages when it should not. The relay is normally at rest, only being energized when at WOT. The relay is energized by a ground pulse from the computer.

Some quick testing will really get ya rolling as to which direction ya need to go.

Good luck Anthony.

Some diagrams of the electrical system to help you troubleshoot...

Thanks guys. I will take a look at the diagram and do some of the volts testing. The good news is that I know the system can be cold, the bad news something is not letting the cold out. I'm thinking that the clutch or maybe the relay might be to blaim, but I'll post as i find or figure out more.
Thanks!!!
